Yoshi's Story (ヨッシーストーリー) is a starter stage in Super Smash Flash 2. It is based on the stage of the same name from Super Smash Bros. Melee and hails from the Yoshi series.
Layout[]
Yoshi's Story consists of a large main platform that extends to the bottom blast line, the edges of which are sloped downward, and three soft platforms that float above it in a pyramid formation, similarly to Battlefield. There is also a small cloud, which acts as a soft platform, that slowly follows a dotted, rectangular track through the main platform and out from sides, where it becomes accessible. The cloud remains outside the main platform for five seconds at a time, after which it reenters the main platform and remains for ten seconds at a time. In the background, Pak E. Derm can be seen walking back and forth.
With hazards turned on, Propeller Shy Guys occasionally fly across the stage, with each carrying a single piece of Food (if it is enabled in the item switch). Attacking them makes them to drop the Food they are carrying and turn around, and dealing 11% damage total defeats them.
Music[]
- The main music track is Donut Lifts, a more upbeat remix of the athletic theme from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
- The alternate music track is Yoshi's Story, a funky remix of the main theme of Yoshi's Story.
Tournament legality[]
This stage is a neutral in competitive play. However, it is among the most controversial; not on its own merits, but due to its strong similarities to Battlefield causing redundancy and, thus, bias in the stage striking process.
It is often erroneously believed to be small and cramped compared to Battlefield, as that was the niche it filled in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Project M. However, its SSF2 appearance is proportionally inaccurate to its original appearances and is, in reality, exactly the same size as Battlefield if not functionally slightly bigger due to Lakitu's Cloud.
Regardless, it has yet to be seen as an outright problem and is allowed in most stage lists.
Origin[]

The first level, Treasure Hunt, in Yoshi's Story.
This stage comes from and is named after the game Yoshi's Story. The stage features the game's characteristic aesthetic, which occurs when Baby Bowser transforms Yoshi's Island into a pop-up storybook and steals the Super Happy Tree. Particularly, it draws from visuals found in the first world of the game, including the cardboard appearance of the first level (Treasure Hunt) and the cloth-like and fabric appearance of the second and third levels, (Surprise!! and Rail Lift, respectively).
The level Rail Lift also features cloud platforms moving across yarn rails that Yoshi must traverse across, which the cloud platform on the stage is based on. Similarly, Pak E. Derm appears exclusively in Treasure Hunt as an enemy that holds up a sign and prevents Yoshi from passing, requiring him to Ground Pound on the ground to temporarily knock him over. Propeller Shy Guys appear as a more common enemy throughout the game and typically carry fruit that Yoshi can eat.
