WallJump9a

Pikachu wall jumping on Central Highway.

Wall jumping was originally a technique in Super Smash Flash 2 that could be performed by certain characters. Based on the technique of the same name in the Super Smash Bros. series, it was performed by jumping or pressing in the opposite direction when against a certain wall, causing the character to turn away from the wall and hop forward. This could be used for recovering, though the height gained from each successive wall jump would decrease.

Only Pikachu and Sonic had the ability to wall jump in SSF2 from v0.8a to v0.9a of the demo. Wall jumping could only be performed on the walls of Central Highway and, in v0.8, Twilight Town. The feature was removed entirely in v0.9b, though unused code for it still exists within the game.

Trivia[]

  • Wall jumps reused the characters' grounded jump animations.
    • Sonic had a bug where, if he tried to wall jump after having already used his midair jump, said wall jumps would have no animation at all.
  • With hazards enabled, wall jumping was possible to perform in the positions of the walls of Central Highway even after they had disappeared.
