The Trophy Stand (スマッシュプレート) is a throwing item from Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Subspace Emissary that appears in Super Smash Flash 2.

Overview

The Trophy Stand is a wooden-like cutout that bears the Super Smash Bros. symbol carved on its side. When thrown by a player, it will travel face-up straight in that direction, and upon hitting an opponent, it will deal 1% damage and turn that opponent into a small, colorless trophy. As a trophy, the player is unable to move or attack, and they can be picked up and thrown like a regular throwing item. The player will become normal again after a short period of time, which becomes longer depending on how much damage is accumulated.

The Trophy Stand is the base of all trophies in the Super Smash Bros. series, and the Trophy Stand by itself appears as an item exclusive to Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary. It is used to turn most enemies into collectible trophies, though it only does so once they are weak enough, as it will only deal moderate damage otherwise. Unlike in SSF2, the user would go through a spinning windup before throwing the Trophy Stand, and it can be picked up again upon landing.

Additionally, trophies created with the Trophy Stand do not lack in color. This trait is actually based on how fighters are turned into colorless trophies upon being defeated in The Subspace Emissary. Once a trophy, a fighter can only be revived when another fighter touches their base or if they are wearing a special brooch.

  • The trophies created from the Trophy Stand are also used in All-Star, in which trophies appear on the All-Star Rest Area after defeating their respective characters.
  • Prior to the item's first public showing, it was teased on April 1, 2019 with the April Fools' Day joke trailer for Super Smash Flash 2: Trophy War, which featured trophies of Mario, Ichigo, and Sandbag very similar to those created with the Trophy Stand.
  • Prior to the Trophy Stand's inclusion in Beta 1.2, the Master Ball had a very similar effect in that it would capture a nearby opponent when thrown. However, due to the two items' similarities, its function was changed to that of its official Super Smash Bros. incarnation.
