Tornado (トルネード) is Tails' Final Smash in Super Smash Flash 2. It was confirmed on July 29, 2018, in the Beta 1.1 release announcement video.

Overview

When performed, Tails boards the Tornado biplane. With the help of a reticle to trace its direction, it then comes flying by on the stage from one side to the other, dropping bombs in its path. More details of this Final Smash are to be revealed in the future.

Origin

Tornado Origin

Tails piloting the Tornado in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

The Tornado is a plane constructed by Tails prior the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, where it made its first appearance. Since then, it has been featured in many other Sonic games. It is typically piloted by Tails, while Sonic or other characters walk on its wings. The plane is owned by Sonic himself, and as such he has also been seen to be the pilot at times. Often in the Sonic series, it is shown towards the end of each game where it usually arrives just in time to save a character from falling to his or her death. It has since become a staple icon of the series.

The Tornado that Tails uses in SSF2 is based most closely on the Tornado's original appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, though its aesthetic design is closer to that of the Tornado in Sonic Adventure.

Trivia

Tailsrevival
  • Prior to v0.9a of the SSF2 Demo, the Tornado was used as Tails' revival platform.
  • Prior to Beta, this Final Smash worked much differently, instead being a stage-wide Final Smash in which Tails would fire cursor-controlled bullets and bombs from a foreground perspective in the Tornado.
