The World That Never Was (存在しなかった世界) is an unlockable stage in Super Smash Flash 2 hailing from the KINGDOM HEARTS series.
Layout[]
The World That Never Was consists of a large main platform extending to the bottom blast line with two soft platforms floating above it. Each soft platform has a slope in the center angled upward toward the edges of the stage.
Music[]
- The main music track is Sacred Moon, a dramatic remix of one of the themes that plays on The World That Never Was in KINGDOM HEARTS II.
- One of the alternate music tracks is Darkness of the Unknown, a rock remix of one of the themes that plays during the battle against Xemnas, the final boss of KINGDOM HEARTS II.
- The other alternate music track is Dearly Beloved, an upbeat remix of the theme that plays as the title theme in the KINGDOM HEARTS series.
Tournament legality[]
The World That Never Was is currently banned in competitive play. It was initially considered a neutral stage due to its fairly balanced layout, its side boundaries are considerable small, with its floating platforms extending far enough away from the main platform to enable early horizontal KOs. Its floating platforms also contain large, disruptive slopes, and their height can be used to enable circle camping.
Origin[]

The Altar of Naught in KINGDOM HEARTS II.
The World That Never Was is a world introduced in KINGDOM HEARTS II, and it reappears in KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days and KINGDOM HEARTS 3D [Dream Drop Distance]. It serves as the world of Organization XIII, a group of thirteen Nobodies led by Xemnas, and is mainly the site of the expansive Dark City. The Organization rules the world from the Castle That Never Was, a massive fortress floating weightlessly over Dark City. The top of the castle contains the Altar of Naught, a giant tower from which Kingdom Hearts of People's Hearts, a source of ultimate power created by the stolen hearts of people, can be viewed and spoken to. In KINGDOM HEARTS II, Sora and his party ascend this altar to confront Xemnas, who flees into Kingdom Hearts to a pocket dimension named The World of Nothing, with their final battle destroying much of the world.
The stage in SSF2 takes place atop the Altar of Naught, which is based on its appearance in KINGDOM HEARTS II. The background shows the damaged Kingdom Hearts of People's Hearts, as well as the door to The World of Nothing that appears after Xemnas enters said Kingdom Hearts. The translucent segments of the soft platforms are based on the floating platforms that appear throughout Ruin and Creation's Passage, the largest area of the Castle That Never Was.
