Tatsumaki Senpukyaku (竜巻旋風脚), sometimes referred to as simply Tatsumaki, is Ryu's side special move in Super Smash Flash 2.

Description

When used, Ryu spins forward like a top with his leg outstretched, performing a spinning hook as he does so. The move hits once and the hit's power is determined whether the player taps or holds the special button.

As with Ryu's other special moves (excluding Focus Attack), inputting the move increases its attack power. When successfully executed, Ryu spins forward like the normal variant, but he instead announces "TATSUMAKI SENPUKYAKU!" when using the move instead of simply grunting. This version deals much more knockback and as such KOs earlier, though the move's power is again determined on whether the player taps or holds the special button.

The move, nicknamed by fans as the Hurricane Kick, was introduced in the original Street Fighter as one of Ryu and Ken's special moves, and this move has been with them in their arsenal ever since. In the games, it is executed by moving the joystick down and in a quarter circle away from the opponent, and pressing any kick button, with the move's power determined by which kick button is pressed. The introduction of Street Fighter II: Champion Edition granted the diversification of Ken's Tatsumaki, as it now deals multiple weak hits instead of one strong hit like Ryu.

In some games, especially recent installments that didn't feature Ken, Ryu's Tatsumaki worked akin to to a related move, Tatsumaki Zankukyaku. This version would have Ryu perform multiple hits and knock down opponents, making it a combination of Ryu and Ken's respective Tatsumaki Senpukyaku moves. While this was common in the recent Vs. Capcom installments, in Super Smash Flash 2, Ryu's Tatsumaki deals one strong hit, effectively returning it to its roots. Ryu later gets a variation of this move: Shinkuu Tatsumaki Senpukyaku (真空竜巻旋風脚); the ki-tornado used within the standard Tatsumaki expands with enough force to suck opponents into the active hitbox, and it later becomes one of Ryu's EX moves, like Shakunetsu Hadoken.
