This article is about Luigi's Super Jump Punch variant. For Mario's variant, see Super Jump Punch (Mario).

Super Jump Punch (スーパージャンプパンチ) is Luigi's up special move in Super Smash Flash 2.

Overview

Fire Jump Punch

Luigi using Fire Jump Punch at Sandbag on the ground, on Final Destination.

When performing this move, it causes Luigi to jump straight up like it does in Super Smash Bros. Melee and each subsequent game, giving what appears to be an uppercut to anyone in the way. If he hits the ground after falling down, his head will comically get stuck, and he will spend a few frames pulling himself free. Though the move has a sizable sourspot that deals do 1% damage and no knockback, there is a small sweetspot near Luigi's elbow at the beginning of the move, that when connected, turns the move into a more powerful Fire Jump Punch that deals 22% damage and good knockback. Unfortunately, since the move goes straight upward and has a below-average drift after the rising portion, it forces Luigi to use his Green Missile and Luigi Cyclone to provide horizontal recovery.

Origin

This move's origin is the same as Mario's variant, based off on the defining jumping technique from the Super Mario platforming games. Similarly to Mario, Luigi cannot directly use his jump to attack enemies but he can directly jump to bump into blocks to take out the enemies above; sometimes, these blocks emit coins and other power-ups may. For this reason, the move results in one coin appearing (and immediately disappearing) for the one hit Luigi successfully connects. Luigi's Super Jump Punch sends him straight up, therefore, covering more height compared to Mario's variant, this is directly based on the fact Luigi has had better jumping abilities than Mario since Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.

Trivia

  • While the attack is not present in the original Super Smash Flash, it is worth mentioning that Luigi, as with Mario, has an extra attack by jumping, which resembles the Super Jump Punch.
  • When Super Jump Punch is sweetspotted, the move makes a sound similar to the sound produced by the Home-Run Bat when the opponents are launched.
