Starship Mario is a spacecraft planetoid in the shape of Mario's head that acts main form of the multi-stage, Galaxy Tours in Super Smash Flash 2. It is based off on the main hub of Super Mario Galaxy 2. It replaced the Comet Observatory as the main form of the stage in the demo SSF2 Beta.

From the Starship Mario, players are transported into different galaxies that changes the stage layout. The Starship Mario itself, however, also has a distinctive layout. Matches take place on the small boat-like deck of the starship. When still, the starship has four colored pass-through platforms which randomly change size and color for each playthrough. When starship is about to travel to a galaxy, the platforms will disappear. Many Lumas can be seen soaring and wandering around the starship.

Starship Mario Origin

The Starship Mario as it appears in Super Mario Galaxy 2.

The Starship Mario is first seen in Super Mario Galaxy 2, acting as the game's main hub, in the veins of the Comet Observatory from its predecessor. When Mario retrieves the first Power Star of the game, the star takes him to a rocky, meteor-battered planetoid commanded by a portly purple Luma called Lubba and his crew of Lumas. Seeing a, which Mario found early, trusts him, he strikes a deal with him to retrieve the rest of the Stars so they can chase after Bowser, who is holding Princess Peach captive at the center of the universe, giving him command of the starship. Lubba and his crew then reshape the starship to look like Mario's head. Using the new Starship Mario, Mario can travel through numerous worlds and galaxies to retrieve the stolen Power Stars, defeating Bowser's forces on his way.

  • Prior to its implementation as a stage, the Starship Mario could be seen flying as a background element of the Comet Observatory stage.
