Super Smash Flash 2 Alliance, also known as SSF2 Alliance or simply the Alliance, is an unofficial group of Super Smash Flash 2 players who aim to organize, develop, and connect with the competitive scene for the game. Formed in June 2019, the group is held on a public Discord server and consists of various competitive players, tournament officials, and content creators. It is led by tournament organizer Tillur and developer Dark Ermac. Similarly to the Smash Back Rooms for the official Super Smash Bros. games, SSF2 Alliance can be considered a "central governing body" for the SSF2 competitive scene, as they are in charge of creating and maintaining the official tournament ruleset, tier lists, character matchup charts, and power rankings for the game.
Although not directly endorsed by or affiliated with McLeodGaming and SSF2 Team, they often promote or endorse tournaments presented by SSF2 Alliance. Additionally, developers often work with SSF2 Alliance to balance the game based on feedback from the community and the backroom.
Backroom[]
The backroom, formerly known as the Smash Flash Back Room, is a subset of SSF2 Alliance consisting of high-level competitive players. It was formerly a subset of SSF2 Union and, prior to that, a subforum on the McLeodGaming Forums. Members of the backroom discuss the game's meta and are the primary party involved with the creation of tier lists and matchup charts, as well as maintaining the ruleset alongside tournament officials. Discussions between members are mainly held in private channels on the group's Discord server, and new members can join after an application process.
