Silver the Hedgehog (シルバー・ザ・ヘッジホッグ) is an anthropomorphic silver hedgehog in the Sonic franchise who first appeared in the 2006 video game Sonic the Hedgehog. He appears as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Flash 2.

Character description[]

Silver is a 14-year-old silver-furred hedgehog who hails from at least 200 years in the future. His main role in the Sonic games is to protect the future by changing the problems in the past, which is motivated by his sense of courage and justice. He does this with the help of his psychokinesis, his set of psychic powers that allows him to manipulate his environment with his mind. In addition to grabbing and moving distant objects, Silver can use these powers to fly at quick speeds and project pure psychic energy. He also has the ability to time travel, though this is implied to be done with the assistance of futuristic technology.

Silver was created from the early development stages of the 2006 video game Sonic the Hedgehog, where the development team was making large levels with multiple paths through them. With a new physics engine giving new depth to the experience, the team decided to include a new character with unique abilities for an alternate way to play through the levels. This lead to Silver being given his psychokinetic powers, and the team sought to expand upon this with new attributes that no other Sonic character possessed at the time. Shiro Maekawa based Silver's character on Future Trunks from the Dragon Ball series.

In Super Smash Flash 2[]

Silver appears as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Flash 2. When summoned, he flies into the air and yells "It's no use! Take this!" or "How about this?!" before closing his eyes and using his psychokinetic powers, causing him to glow a light blue color. The summoner's opponents then glow the same color as they are trapped in place and lifted slowly into the air. While trapped, they are unable to perform any actions, leaving them vulnerable to attack. Silver's psychokinesis effect lasts about eight seconds before his powers wear off and he disappears. It will also end early if Silver makes contact with a blast line, causing him to yell "No!" as he disappears.

Silver's psychokinesis is able to trap all opponents on-screen, regardless of distance. However, opponents are able to avoid this effect if they are invincible, intangible, or under the effect of grabbing or hitstun.
