Shadow is playable newcomer unlockable character in Super Smash Flash from the largely represented Sonic roster in the game. As with the case with is his other fellow Sonic characters, Shadow's sprites and attacks are derived from Sonic Battle.

Shadow is ranked 28th on the tier list. He has decent KO power in his up attack and down aerial. However, all of his attacks have poor to mediocre range, as well as high startup/ending lag and generally poor finishing ability. Shadow also lacks a reliable Momentum canceling move. Shadow's meager strengths and blatant flaws result in poor matchups across the board, resulting in his low ranking.

Attack Description Damage Image
Standard attack Shadow uses Shadow Guard, creating a growing field of chaos energy that directly damages opponents. There is a bit of ending lag that will prevent Shadow from creating another field when holding down the attack button. 3% SSF Shadow standard attack
Side attack Shadow uses Chaos Upper, where he swings his arm and conjures a ball of chaos energy from his fist. Though the attack does not naturally cause Shadow to skid forward, he is nonetheless still able to move forward when using this attack using the movement inputs. 3% SSF Shadow side attack
Up attack Shadow throws a high kick. It possesses a bit of ending lag, similarly to his standard attack. 4% SSF Shadow up attack
Down attack Shadow uses Chaos Magic, closing his eyes and snapping his fingers, which creates a small explosion of chaos energy. If Shadow is not holding an item, he will be unable to continuously use the attack by holding down the attack button, using his standard attack afterwards instead. This said, when held down, it possesses a bit of ending lag similarly to his standard attack. 5% SSF Shadow down attack
Down aerial Shadow uses Chaos Magic in the air, though the attack is somehow different than his down attack. For instance, the ensuing explosion of chaos energy is not visible (only the initial orange spark does). Also, an invisible projectile gets fired straight down, with a considerable long range. This is the only projectile Shadow possesses and the fact it is invisible makes it unique among other projectiles in the game. 4% SSF Shadow down aerial

  • Shadow is the only Sonic character to have voice samples. However, he does not use samples coming from his game series; instead, he recycles some samples from Fox in Super Smash Bros. Melee. A similar case happens with Crono.
