Semi-spikes, or pseudo-spikes, are moves in the Super Smash Bros. series and Super Smash Flash series that send opponents at a horizontal trajectory and then a vertical trajectory. In between the horizontal and vertical trajectories in the SSB games, a quarter circle trajectory is occurs before the vertical trajectory. Here is where the player can react. Now, in the SSF games, these moves send opponents diagonally horizontally downward or in the same way in the SSB games. Examples of semi-spikes are:

Super Smash Flash 2

Ichigo/Bankai Ichigo

  • Side Special - If an opponent is in contact with Ichigo at the beginning or end of the move (when he stalls and where he reappears), he or she is sent downwards at an angle, making this move a semi-spike that is stronger if the enemy's damage is at higher percentages. This move does cause helplessness when used in the air, so the move should be used to recover back to the stage.
  • Bankai Ichigo's Forward Aerial - Bankai Ichigo swipes his blade vertically forward in front of him. Anyone hit by the blade is sent downwards at an angle in front of Bankai Ichigo, making this move a semi-spike.
  • Bankai Ichigo's Side Special - Like his normal form's version of this move, Bankai Ichigo knocks away opponents at a low angle, semi-spiking them. Unlike his normal form's version of this move, he slashes upwards instead of downwards, and he does not go into helplessness when he uses this move in the air.

Mega Man

  • Neutral Aerial - Mega Man spins horizontally like a tornado, hitting anyone near him multiple times. This move can send anyone horizontally downwards at an angle, making it a semi-spike, but this move does not always sent an opponent downwards because the move hits and sends opponents in random directions.

Mario

  • Neutral Aerial - Mario does a kick that sends opponents sideways at the last frames of the move. The beginning frames can semi-spike an opponent.

Kirby

  • Down Tilt - Kirby quickly sticks his legs out from under him. This move is a quick and powerful semi-spike.

Lloyd

  • Side Special - Lloyd sticks his sword forward while moving. Anyone who touches the sword is heavily semi-spiked.

Black Mage

  • Back Aerial - Black Mage stabs his opponent with a knife behind him that gives excellent knockback. It is an excellent semi-spike but with low range.
  • Down Tilt - Black Mage sticks out a dagger in front of him on the ground. The move gives good knockback and is a good edge-guarding option against off-stage aerial opponents who are recovering.

Link

  • Forward Smash - The first hit of this move semi-spikes aerial opponents, but it does not lead into the second hit.

Peach

  • Forward Smash - Only the tennis racket and the golf club semi-spike while the frying pan hits opponents diagonally upwards.
