Sector Z (セクターZ) is a starter stage in Super Smash Flash 2. It is based on the stage of the same name from Super Smash Bros. and hails from the Star Fox series.
Layout[]
Sector Z takes place atop the Great Fox, which faces left. The front of the ship slopes slightly downward to the right and has a pair of turrets mounted underneath, with the port they are attached to acting as a small platform that can be stood on. Towards the center of the ship, there is a wing that slopes upward to the right, with the tip being the highest point of the ship. The back of the ship is much lower and mostly flat, with the right side of the wing being a large wall.
With hazards turned on, the turrets below the front of the ship periodically fires six shots, with each shot dealing 15% damage and high knockback to players hit. When fired, there is also a hitbox just above the turrets, with each shot dealing 5% damage and high knockback, discouraging players from standing next to the turrets. Additionally, an Arwing may fly to the left toward the stage, occasionally firing lasers that deal 16% damage and moderate knockback. The top of the Arwing also acts as a soft platform, though it occasionally performs a barrel roll and cannot be stood on while doing so. The Arwing may either descend from the top blast line and retreat back to the top or fly in from the right blast line and speed up toward the left blast line.
Music[]
- The main music track is Main Theme (Star Fox 64) / Titania (Star Fox), a calm techno remix of the main theme of Star Fox 64 and the Titania level from Star Fox.
- The alternate music track is Corneria 2, an upbeat techno remix of the Planet Corneria theme from Star Fox.
Tournament legality[]
This stage is banned from tournaments. It is very large and difficult to traverse for characters with limited vertical mobility. The stage has many slopes of varying angles that exhibit buggy behaviors and throw off the ground game. The area behind the fin is a powerful camping spot that makes it very difficult to KO from due to the large wall and fin preventing moves from KOing unless they hit at an upwards angle towards the right-hand blast zone.
Origin[]

Sector Z in Star Fox 64.
Sector Z is based on the level of the same name in Star Fox 64, which is named this way for the red nebula in the shape of the letter "Z". In this level, Andross's forces ambush the Great Fox, the Star Fox team's mother ship that debuted in this game, on its flight through the Sector Z nebula to Area 6. The Star Fox team then launches their Arwings from the Great Fox in order to defend it from enemy forces, as well as six giant Copperhead missiles fired at it. Large pieces of metal scrap also appear around the area, which are presumed to be wreckage from a battle between the Cornerian Defense Force and a unit of Space Pirates prior to the events of the game. This area also appears as a multiplayer stage in the game, which features several pieces of scrap to fly around.

Trivia[]

The Great Fox in demo v0.9's intro.
- The backs of the fins on the Great Fox contain symbols resembling letters referencing several SSF2 developers, including "ZI" for Zero Insanity, "Tūb" for Turbo, and "DBN" for DBN.
- When first introduced in v0.6 of the demo, the Great Fox on this stage had a worn-down appearance resembling its deteriorated design from Star Fox Adventures.
- This early Great Fox design also appears in the opening movie for demo v0.9, in which it flies alongside the Blue Falcon from Captain Falcon's Final Smash and the Falcon Flyer from Sand Ocean.
