Running

Running is a form of ground movement in the Super Smash Flash series and Fraymakers. In the original Super Smash Flash, all characters automatically run when moving forward, as it is not possible to walk. In Super Smash Flash 2 and Fraymakers, running is faster than walking and begins with an initial dash forwards.

While running, characters are able to turn around by pressing the opposite direction, though this requires them to decelerate before accelerating back to their running speeds, which can take a long time. Stopping causes characters to skid, in which they decelerate until returning to their idle stance. Both turning and skidding can only be interrupted by jumping or crouching.

Dashing[]

Dashing can be performed in Super Smash Flash 2 and Fraymakers as per configured by the player. With auto-dash turned on, the player dashes any time they move left or right on a platform. If auto-dash is turned off instead, the player can configure a separate input to be held to dash instead of walk, and when using an analog stick, they may quickly tap it left or right to dash. With d-tap dash turned on, the player can also dash by tapping left or right two times consecutively.

Most characters' initial dash animations move them faster than their running animations. This allows for a technique known as fox-trotting, which consists of moving by repeatedly using a character's initial dash animation instead of their full run, which can often be faster than running normally. There are also various ways to cancel the dash animation, such as by crouching, shielding, or dashing in the other direction, which is vital to grounded movement techniques such as dash-dancing and pivoting.

Note[]

  1. Luigi's dash skid has a minimum of 8 frames and lasts until he decelerates to 1 pixel per frame.
  2. Sandbag's dashing speed becomes 5 on frame 4. Its running speed affects only its hops forward and not the stops it makes in intervals.
