Mr. Game & Watch pummeling Black Mage.
A pummel is an attack in Super Smash Flash 2 that is usable while an opponent is trapped in the player's grab. It is performed by pressing the attack or grab input after a successful grab. As the character will generally be holding their opponent with both arms, the majority of pummels are punches, headbutts, and weapon-bashes, which tend to deal very low damage. Pummeling does not cause knockback or hitlag.
Pummeling is primarily used to rack up extra damage before a throw. As higher damages lead to longer grab times, pummeling becomes more based on how much damage the opponent has accumulated. However, players also risk pummeling for too long and allowing for a grab release before they can throw their opponent.
Although grabbing is also possible in Fraymakers, pummeling was excluded from the game in order to reduce mechanics that encourage "button mashing".
