Pound (はたく) is a recurring attack in the Pokémon games which is usable by Jigglypuff in the Super Smash Flash series.

Overview[]

Pound is simple damage-dealing attack that has Jigglypuff pounding forward with its forearm while it says "Puff!".

In Super Smash Flash[]

In the original Super Smash Flash, Pound is Jigglypuff's neutral attack. Unlike how it works in the Super Smash Bros. games, Pound has a rather short range as it is one of the few attacks in SSF that does not cause Jigglypuff to skid forward, meaning it is always a close-range attack; because of this, this severely affects Jigglypuff's horizontal movement, so it is a useless tool in terms of recovering. It deals 5% damage per frame to opponents hit.

In Super Smash Flash 2[]

The reboot, Super Smash Flash 2, has Pound as Jigglypuff's side special move. The attack has been reworked so now it works identically to its Super Smash Bros. counterpart, propelling Jigglypuff forwards every time the attack is used, restoring its status as a good horizontal recovery move. It can also be angled upward or downward slightly, propelling Jigglypuff more in that direction. It deals 9% of damage to the opponent.

Techniques[]

Poundsliding[]

Poundsliding is an advanced technique that Jigglypuff can use in SSF2. It consists of using Pound angled downward in the air just before landing on a platform, which causes Jigglypuff to skid forward about twice as far as it normally would. This makes Jigglypuff harder to punish, and it improves its mobility on the ground.

Origin[]

Pound is a damage-dealing Normal-type move that was introduced in the Generation I Pokémon games, Pokémon Red and Blue. It is usually considered as one of the basic Normal-type attacks, alongside Tackle and Scratch. Because of this, it is normally an attack that Pokémon may learn at very early levels, including Jigglypuff. According to its many in-game descriptions, the Pokémon physically pounds with any of its extremities, being a long tail, a foreleg, or the like. In Jigglypuff's case, it visually uses one of its forearms.
