Planet SR388, formerly known as Phase 8, is a starter stage in Super Smash Flash 2 from the Metroid series. It is the main setting of Metroid II: Return of Samus and its remake, Metroid: Samus Returns. The planet is briefly seen in the opening of Metroid Fusion, and is ultimately destroyed at the end of said game.
Layout[]
Planet SR388 consists of a large main platform with three soft platforms floating above, including one on the left side and two on the right side. The main platform has slopes that sink toward the center, with the left side being considerably raised and having a small wall after the slope. There is also a large stone platform in the center with a hatch underneath, which reveals its interior when entered. A Metroid can also occasionally be seen floating in the background.
With hazards turned on, a yellow liquid waterfall periodically falls over the stage. This is indicated by drops of acid falling over the rock platform in the center, after which the waterfall pours over that platform for ten seconds, dealing 6% damage and moderate knockback to players hit, and it can only be safely passed through using the hatch below. The waterfall first appears after fifteen seconds and reappears in random intervals afterward, which can last between thirty and seventy seconds.
Music[]
- The main music track is Kraid's Lair, a calm atmospheric remix of the theme that plays in Mini-Boss Hideout I, also known as Kraid's Lair, from Metroid.
- The alternate music track is Lower Norfair, an orchestral rock remix of the theme that plays on the Norfair Ancient Ruins level in Super Metroid
Tournament legality[]
The presence of walls on the stage's main platform and its overall size make it unsuitable for competitive play.
Origin[]

Planet SR388, as it appears in Metroid: Samus Returns.
Planet SR388 is a major location in the Metroid series introduced in Metroid II: Return of Samus. It most notably served as the homeworld to the Metroid species, which was created by the Chozo to combat the planet's X Parasites. After they become the planet's dominant species and pose a threat to the galaxy, Samus travels to the planet in order to exterminate the species, though she ultimately keeps the last remaining Metroid hatchling. The planet also returns in Metroid Fusion, in which the X Parasites become the dominant species once more and infect Samus.
The design of the stage in SSF2 is based on the planet's appearance in Metroid: Samus Returns, particularly in Area 8, the final area of the game.
