Planet Namek (ナメック星), often referred to simply as Namek, is a starter stage in Super Smash Flash 2 hailing from the Dragon Ball franchise. It was seen for the first time in Mega Man's SSF2 Mini-Trailer, where it carried a different design from the one ultimately used in-game.
Getting a total of 20 KOs or self-destructs in the bottom blast line of this stage will unlock Steel Diver.
Layout[]
Planet Namek consists of a large main platform with two small soft platforms floating above it. The main platform is surrounded by water and unevenly sloped upward to the right, with the left side being flatter and having a dome-like house acting as terrain. The soft platforms float near the middle of the main platform, with the rightmost platform floating higher, and each platform sinks slightly for each player atop it.
With hazards turned on, the house on the left side and the cliff on the right side of the main platform can be attacked by players. Each can receive 50% damage total before being destroyed, with the house becoming increasingly worn down as it receives damage. When destroyed, the house leaves the mostly flat surface of the main platform beneath it, and the cliffside slopes downward to the right with a ledge being added. Each object reforms about one minute after being destroyed.
The Ginyu Force comprising of Ginyu, Burter, Jeice, Guldo and Recoome, periodically appears in the background, in which they fly to the left together about every 35 seconds.
Music[]
- The main music track is Gohan's Anger Theme, a dramatic rock remix of the theme that plays when Gohan transforms into Super Saiyan 2 during the Cell Games in the English adaptation of the anime Dragon Ball Z.
- The alternate music track is Fight Theme (Dragon Ball Z), an orchestral remix of the fight theme from the anime Dragon Ball Z.
Tournament legality[]

Though it is not necessarily short, it is still missing some vital information and urgently requires it. You can help the McLeodGaming Wiki by filling in the blanks. |
This stage is banned due to its uneven terrain. The Namekian house is also a small raised bit, and thus has walls.
Origin[]

Namek's appearance in chapter 247 of the manga Dragon Ball.
Namek is a major location in Dragon Ball that first appears in chapter 247 of the original manga, titled "Dark Clouds Swirl Over Planet Namek" (暗雲うずまくナメック星) (retitled in the English adaptation as "Planet Namek, Cold and Dark"). It is the home planet to the Namekians, a race of green beings and warriors originating from the destructive Demon Realm, with Namek housing about 100 of them following a massive climate shift. The surface of the planet is filled with large bodies of water and islands covered with blue-colored grass and Ajisa trees, as well as the Namekians' architecture, which is characterized by its white coloration, round finishes, and protruding horn decorations. During the events of the franchise, the villainous Frieza and his forces invade the planet to gather the planet's Dragon Balls by force and wish for eternal life, being opposed by Goku and his allies, including Frieza's former henchman, Vegeta. The planet is ultimately destroyed by Frieza as a last-ditch effort to kill Goku, who had matched him after achieving his Super Saiyan transformation for the first time.
The stage in SSF2 is primarily based on Namek's appearance in the anime Dragon Ball Z and contains characteristic features such as its green water, Ajisa trees, and Namekian houses. The soft platforms resemble Namekian architecture with their white color, green orbs, and horn-shaped protrusions. The suns in the sky are based on their depictions in chapter 247 of the manga, and the clouds are oriented diagonally to reflect their appearance in full shots of the planets, similarly to the Planet Namek stage in Dragon Ball FighterZ. The background also depicts the tall islet that is home to Grand Elder Guru, the oldest and wisest Namekian, with its appearance being based on its background appearance in Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors. The chair he sits in is referenced by that which appears upon destroying the Namekian house.
Various background details on the stage reference Frieza's invasion of the planet in Dragon Ball, such as the Ginyu Force, a team of five powerful warriors who fight on Namek alongside Frieza, and Frieza's Spaceship, which serves as his base of operations. The destructible terrain references the destruction of the land that occurs during fights on the planet in the manga and anime, as well as on the Planet Namek stages throughout the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi games.

Trivia[]
- Prior to Beta 1.1, this stage's layout was completely different, instead consisting of three main rock platforms with semisoft platforms floating in-between. The left and right rock platforms would slope towards the blast lines and Piccolo would observe the fight from the foreground of the right platform.
- This previous layout is referenced in the background of the stage, which features a set of islets with the same formation.
- Prior to Beta 1.4, Vegeta, Trunks, and Son Gohan would fly across the background rather than the Ginyu Force.
