After the death of Nagato's friend, Yahiko, he resurrected his dead body through utilizing the power of the Rinnegan and took on the name Pain. Pain retained all of his features from when he was still alive such as his medium spiky orange hair but through being controlled by Nagato he possesses the Rinnegan, bares six piercings, a metal bar through each ear, three studs through the sides of his nose, one spike stud on each side of his bottom lip, and three piercings on each wrist. All these piercings are referred to as chakra receivers which allow Nagato to control each of the Pains. Pain has a pale face and wears a necklace. He also wears a purplish-grey Akatsuki ring on his right thumb.
As the leader of the Akatsuki, Nagato projected great charisma through his public mask of the Deva Path (Yahiko's corpse). Nagato is surprisingly patient with the other Akatsuki when some of the members are being defiant. Overly confident in his own abilities, Nagato not hesitant to fight the strongest opponents if need be. Nagato can also convey a cold and wrathful side when his ideals about peace is questioned. Despite this, Nagato also has a kind and respectful nature to those who die in pursuit of his own goals. Nagato is later re-convinced of his former pacifism by Naruto Uzumaki, who believes the struggle for peace is worth any personal cost to the point of sacrificing his life to atone for his actions.
In Super Smash Flash 2
Nagato appears as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Flash 2, with his design based on the way he appeared after adopting the alias of Pain. When summoned, he uses the technique Chibaku Tensei to gather four rocks from the ground and then quickly rotates them around him for a while, dealing 5% damage to players hit by them. At the end of this, the rocks will shrink until they disappear, and Nagato will then jump high up, disappearing as well.
