Mushroom Kingdom (いにしえの王国) alternatively called Mushroom Kingdom I, is a unlockable stage in Super Smash Flash 2. It is based on the stage of the same name from Super Smash Bros. and hails from Mario series, being heavily based on the original Super Mario Bros. game.
Layout[]

Mario stepping on the balance platforms.
Mushroom Kingdom consists primarily of two large, flat main platforms stretching to the left and right blast lines and separated by a gap in the center. The leftmost platform has a large hard platform of Brick Blocks with a Warp Pipe at the right edge floating over it, as well as a soft platform floating over its right side. The rightmost platform has two soft platforms floating above its left side and a small Warp Pipe to the right of them. Above the gap between them, there are two soft platforms on a scale, and standing on one causes it to sink while lifting the other one, though this can be stopped by another character standing on the other platform. A platform can continue sinking until the other platform reaches the top of the balance, and with hazards turned on, this causes both platforms to fall down to the bottom blast line. Upon falling, they reappear after ten seconds.

Turning hazards on has several additional effects, such as causing Piranha Plants to periodically emerge from each of the two Warp Pipes. Making contact with one deals 5% damage and weak upward knockback. The Warp Pipes themselves also allow players to enter them by pressing the down input while standing on one, which has a chance of them emerging from the other Warp Pipe if there is not a Piranha Plant already emerging from it. Otherwise, they instead emerge from the right-facing Warp Pipe on the left wall of the gap, which itself cannot be entered and may risk the player self-destructing. Additionally, a POW Block may occasionally appear in one of three places, including above the left Warp Pipe, under the top of the balancing scale, or above the high soft platform on the right side of the stage, and attacking it deals 20% damage and upward knockback to all grounded opponents and causes it to disappear.
During gameplay, the top of the screen features the characteristic HUD from Super Mario Bros., which includes the name of a character in the match, a coins counter that stays on 00, a world number that stays on 1-1, and a time counter that starts at 999 and counts down along with the actual match timer.
Music[]
- The main music track is Ground Theme (Super Mario Bros.), an upbeat chiptune remix of the ground theme from Super Mario Bros..
- The alternate music track is Underwater (Super Mario Bros.), an orchestral remix of the underwater theme from Super Mario Bros..
Tournament legality[]
This stage is banned in competitive play. It has walk-offs on both sides, walls (the pipes), a ceiling, as well as a pit that objectively divides the stage into two.
Origin[]

World 1-1, an overworld level from Super Mario Bros..
Mushroom Kingdom takes its appearance from the in-game sprites of Super Mario Bros., particularly those used in its overworld levels. These levels typically consist of red ground blocks as the main platform and blue sky background with while clouds and green bushes and hills. Various other elements present in overworld levels appear throughout the stage as platforms or background elements, such as Brick Blocks, Empty Blocks, mushroom-shaped platforms, Balance Lifts that break if one platform is pressed too low, and a flagpole and fortress marking the end of a level. This also includes Warp Pipes, which often transport Mario or Luigi to a different section of the level, and Piranha Plants as enemies, which periodically rise from Warp Pipes to attack by biting. Notably, the Piranha Plants on the stage are not green as they are in overworld levels of Super Mario Bros., instead being based on their red-colored sprites in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels from World 4-1 onward.
The POW Block is not present in Super Mario Bros., instead debuting in Mario Bros. as an item that causes an earthquake and flips over enemies when hit. The POW Block in Mario Bros. can be hit up to three times before disappearing, whereas the one on the stage can only be used once, resembling its functionality in Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3.
