For the fighter info, see Mr. Game & Watch (Super Smash Flash) and Mr. Game & Watch (Super Smash Flash 2).

Mr. Game & Watch (Mr.ゲーム&ウォッチ) is the modern-day mascot of Nintendo's first handheld consoles: the Game & Watch series. He has distinctive frame-by-frame animation and his attacks are based on past games. He appears in Super Smash Flash as an unlockable character and in Super Smash Flash 2 as a starter character.

Character description

Mr. Game & Watch is a character comprised by the various subjects present in the numerous Game & Watch units. The actual single character of Mr. Game & Watch debuted in Super Smash Bros. Melee. While some Game & Watch games starred specific characters, such as Mario in Mario's Cement Factory, a majority simply starred nameless, simply-drawn characters. These characters, due to the LCD display of the Game & Watch, could only move in alternating, preset frames, much like the numbers on a calculator. Also, the animation frames were monochrome, simply being black LCD frames against a preset background.

In translating this era of gaming to the official Smash Bros. games, many of these generic characters' animations and abilities were combined into one new entity, Mr. Game & Watch. Visually, Mr. Game & Watch's standard design most heavily resembles the people in need of rescue from Fire and the pedestrians from Manhole. In keeping with the limitations of the Game & Watch's animations, Mr. Game & Watch is rendered as a flat, two-dimensional character with a choppy, frame-by-frame animation style.

Since then Mr. Game & Watch would make small appearances in Nintendo games outside the Smash series such as  in Game & Watch Gallery 4 which would mark his only speaking role and in non-Game & Watch titles such as small cameos in the WarioWare series and Donkey Kong Country Returns.

In Super Smash Flash, Mr. Game & Watch is the very last unlockable character. He is unlocked by completing Target Test with every character, except him. This was also one of the ways he could be unlocked in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Most of his attacks are based on his moveset from this game, including Octopus and Chef. His sprites are completely custom.

Mr. Game & Watch appears as a starter character in Super Smash Flash 2, making his debut in version Beta of the demo. He was revealed on Day 3 of McLeodGaming's APEX 2015 livestream. His moveset is a combination of his moveset in the Super Smash Bros. series. His overall sprite design is based on his appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
