Metroid II: Return of Samus (メトロイドII RETURN OF SAMUS) is the sequel to Metroid, the second game in the Metroid series, and the only one to appear on the Game Boy. It is about Samus Aran's mission to exterminate the Metroids on their home planet, SR388. Although it is the second release in the series, chronologically it takes place after Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and before Super Metroid.

In the Super Smash Flash series


Phase 8, the penultimate location Samus has to explore in this game, appears as a stage in Super Smash Flash 2. It should be noted that the "lava" in Metroid II was never identified as such but being referred in the manuals as a "dangerous liquid"; in SSF2, however, this stage clearly depicts lava as the hazardous liquid that rises and descends.
