Metroid: Zero Mission (メトロイドゼロミッション) is a remake of Metroid, making it chronologically the first game in the Metroid series and replacing Metroid in the canon. It was designed to "retell the story of Samus Aran's original mission".
Zero Mission was developed by Nintendo's internal team, Nintendo Research & Development 1, under the direction of Yoshio Sakamoto. Zero Mission features the same plot as the original Metroid, but is slightly modified with the addition of new areas. It marks the first appearance of Zero Suit Samus.
In the Super Smash Flash series
Although Samus has appeared in previous Metroid games without her Power Suit, this is the first game to feature her wearing her Zero Suit. Zero Suit Samus appears as a playable character in Super Smash Flash 2.
Zero Suit Samus's standard special move in SSF2 uses her emergency pistol, renamed as Paralyzer, that she uses in this game while in her Zero Suit. Like in the original game, opponents hit by the Paralyzer's shots are paralyzed for a short time.
