Meteor canceling, also known as meteor cancelling, is the process of cancelling the hitstun and momentum applied to a player after getting hit by a meteor smash, an attack that sends the opponent downwards. This results in the character executing a midair jump.

If a character has not used all their midair jumps, it can be performed by pressing the jump button 9 frames after hitstun starts. Attempting to meteor cancel too early will result in the inability to meteor cancel for 10 more frames.

Stage spikes, a mechanic similar to meteor smashes, cannot be meteor cancelled.
