This article is about Meta Knight's appearance in Super Smash Flash. For the character in other contexts, see Meta Knight.

Meta Knight is a playable newcomer starter character in Super Smash Flash. He shares a slot with Kirby, and can swap out at any time with his standard attack. All of his attacks involve swinging his Galaxia sword around. His sprites are ripped straight from his playable appearance in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, the remake of the game he made his debut on, Kirby's Adventure.

Meta Knight is ranked 13th on the tier list, solidly in the middle. Meta Knight has one of the best recoveries in game, with five midair jumps and a decent air speed. His attacks are all disjointed, giving him good range and decent instant-KO attacks. He also has the ability to switch out with Kirby, which can be used to escape pressure. He has a solid dash dance, making him one of the few characters in the game to be able to overcome the game's slippery physics.

Despite this, Meta Knight lacks a projectile, though he has less trouble dealing with them than Kirby. Due to his switching move, Meta Knight only possesses four moves that deal damage, which grants him less options than the other characters on average.

His cons are relatively minimal, but his strengths do not match the same level as the higher tiered characters, thus leaving him in the higher end of the mid tiers.

Moveset

Attack Description Damage Image
Standard attack Meta Knight switches places with Kirby. This move can be used to evade attacks, as Kirby and Meta Knight become intangible when they are swapping until one of them actually reaches the floor. It is possible to cancel the switch by performing a different move as Kirby or Meta Knight are moving out. N/A SSF Kirby - Meta Knight standard attack
Side attack Meta Knight slashes twice with his sword; he first strikes with the Lunging Slice, slashing from top to bottom, and then immediately proceeds with the Meta Chop, slashing from bottom to top. Meta Knight skids forward as he attacks. 4% SSF Meta Knight side attack
Up attack Meta Knight stabs with his sword upwards, skidding forward in the process. 6% SSF Meta Knight up attack
Down attack Meta Knight slides on the ground with his sword extended, propelling himself forward. 5% SSF Meta Knight down attack
Down aerial Meta Knight thrust his sword downwards, plummeting to the ground. It is one of the few attacks in the game that possesses landing lag, even if the attack is not grounded. 6% SSF Meta Knight down aerial
Jump attack Meta Knight has a unique jump attack: rather than attacking when he is jumping, he can only do it while falling as he extends his sword in a similar manner to his down attack. Oddly, his jump attack does not deal any damage but is able to cause opponents to flinch, making it a great edgeguarding tool. 0% SSF Meta Knight jump attack

Trivia

  • Meta Knight is one of two characters to appear in SSF before even the first Super Smash Bros. Brawl trailer (which confirmed his inclusion in the aforementioned game) was released, with the other being Sonic.
  • For some reason, the Poison Mushroom's shrinking sound effect can be heard when Meta Knight uses his down attack.
