Meta Knight using Mach Tornado.
|Effect||Meta Knight surrounds himself with a tornado, damaging opponents he makes contact with.|
When performed, Meta Knight spins at high speed and surrounds himself with a small yellow tornado, damaging any opponents that make contact with him. The attack lasts for about one second and slows Meta Knight's descent, but if the special attack input is pressed repeatedly, then the move will last up to one extra second (depending on how quickly the button is pressed) and Meta Knight will gain height, making it an effective vertical recovery, though it will also put Meta Knight in a helpless state afterwards. The tornado can hit opponents multiple times, and it can rack up to 16% damage to the opponent if they are hit for the entire duration of the attack.
Mach Tornado is an attack that Meta Knight uses in the Kirby games, starting with Kirby Super Star, in which he flies to the side of the screen and launches a gigantic tornado towards the other side of the screen by charging and then stabbing Galaxia into the ground. It also appears in Kirby Super Star Ultra as a technique in the game mode Meta Knightmare Ultra, in which Meta Knight transforms into a tornado and creates multiple gigantic tornadoes that spread through the entire screen, thus damaging all enemies on-screen. However, the move in SSF2 is based much more closely on a similar move he uses in Kirby Super Star in which he transforms into an invincible yellow tornado and moves across the screen. Control-wise, this move is very similar to Kirby's Tornado Copy Ability that first appeared in Kirby's Adventure, which allows Kirby to temporarily become a fast-moving tornado in which holding the attack button will rise it in height.
