The Official Super Smash Flash 2 Teaser

The first trailer to announce SSF2, known as "Super Smash Flash 2 Teaser" and also called "The Official Super Smash Flash 2 Teaser", was made by the former SSF2 developer Alex NintendoFlash Torres and released on his Newgrounds account on April 4, 2008. It is based directly on the reveal trailer for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, featuring the same music and very similar events.

It opens with Mario, Link, Kirby, and Pikachu, who appear with their sprites from Super Smash Flash before they change to the new sprites featured in Super Smash Flash 2. The SSF2 logo then appears, followed by footage of the four characters fighting on Battlefield and Castle Siege. Ridley is shown as an Assist Trophy, and the Smash Ball and multiple Final Smashes, including Fire Mario, Triforce Slash, and Cook Kirby, are also shown. They then appear on Hueco Mundo, where Ichigo is revealed as a newcomer. Ichigo fights the other four characters before appearing on the stage Dive to the Heart, where he blocks an incoming Keyblade from Sora, who is revealed as the next newcomer. The two fight each other for a moment before the next newcomer, Azreal, intervenes. The three then look to the right, where the next newcomer, Goku, is turning into Super Saiyan Goku. He charges and releases a Super Kamehameha that causes a massive explosion, ending the trailer. The credits then roll, and at the end, Donkey Kong is revealed to be another newcomer.

Character reveals

Most often, trailers for SSF2 are used specifically to reveal upcoming characters or new versions of them, such as updated sprites. Below is a list of these trailers in chronological order of release.

Fox

????????????????????????

????????????????????????

Fox's reveal trailer was released to Void's YouTube channel on October 29, 2011 to be featured as a surprise announcement in the fifth v0.8 Dev Blog the following day. It opens with the SSF2 logo zooming in before cutting to a montage individually showcasing every other playable character included in the game prior to v0.8, with text displaying which demo they first appeared in. After the montage, text for v0.8 appears, followed by Fox being revealed in a gameplay montage showcasing him. After the montage, the trailers ends with text on the screen thanking Ema 194 Alvarado for making the remix of Corneria used in the trailer and Damian for spriting Fox.

Isaac

McLeodGaming Direct - Super Smash Flash 2 v0

McLeodGaming Direct - Super Smash Flash 2 v0.9b (7 21 14)

In the McLeodGaming Direct, the trailer is shown at 11:38.

Isaac's reveal trailer was shown by Void as a surprise announcement at the end of the McLeodGaming Direct for v0.9b of the demo on July 21, 2014. As Isaac would not be released until Beta, Void first makes it clear that he is not ready for release in v0.9b, and instead he is something to look forward to in the future.

The trailer then begins with Mario and Link fighting each other on Battlefield. The rock structure in the background is zoomed into to reveal Chibi-Robo behind it, who then goes to examine something rupturing the ground. A flower then emerges from that spot, much to Chibi-Robo's happiness. Back in the foreground, Mario attempts to shoot a Fireball at Link, but it ends up hitting the flower instead. Chibi-Robo tries to fan the fire away, but it only spreads, burning the flower to a crisp and deeply upsetting Chibi-Robo. As he sulks, an unknown figure lands on the left platform, and a green glow appears around the flower to bring it back to life. Chibi-Robo is delighted, and the unknown figure is revealed to be Isaac, who descends next to the flower and poses as a splash screen with the tagline "Isaac stands his ground!" appears. The trailer then ends with a picture of Isaac on Final Destination with a message to look forward to more information about the future of SSF2.

Bowser

McLeodGaming Direct - Super Smash Flash 2 Beta (1 25 15)

McLeodGaming Direct - Super Smash Flash 2 Beta (1 25 15)

In the McLeodGaming Direct, the trailer is shown at 20:00.

Bowser's reveal trailer, much like Isaac's reveal trailer, was a surprise announcement at the end of a McLeodGaming Direct, namely the one for SSF2 Beta on January 25, 2015. It occurs during a montage of gameplay clips and screens showcasing each character, in which Isaac's is sliced in half and the screen goes black.

The trailer then begins with Mario and Peach peacefully walking together through a grassy plain. The screen pans left to reveal Link, who challenges Mario while Peach runs away to safety. Mario runs toward him while Link fires arrows from his Hero's Bow, which Mario dodges and reflects with his Cape. Link blocks the reflected arrow and Mario launches him skyward with a punch, but when he jumps after him, Link kicks him back down. As they land on the ground and continue to fight, a large large figure can be seen jumping high up in the background. As Link charges another arrow and Mario charges a Fireball, a large shadow between them gradually grows bigger before it is revealed to be Bowser, who launches them both away with a Bowser Bomb. He then poses as a splash screen with the tagline "Bowser is in the castle" appears. After this, he chases down Peach and then uses Flying Slam to take them both to Battlefield, where the trailer cuts to a gameplay montage showcasing him. The SSF2 logo then appears, ending the trailer.

Mega Man and Luigi

SSF2 Beta Super Smash Con Reveal Trailer

SSF2 Beta Super Smash Con Reveal Trailer

A trailer revealing Mega Man's new sprites in Beta, as well as Luigi, was released at the end of Day 3 of McLeodGaming's Super Smash Con 2015 Twitch stream on August 8, 2015.

The trailer starts with a recreation of the beginning of Mega Man's reveal trailer for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, opening with a siren and a "New challenger approaching!" sign. It then cuts to a canyon at night, where Mario, Link, Kirby, and Donkey Kong glance up to the top of a cliff where the silhouette of a humanoid with spiky hair stands. A helmet forms around its head and its eyes light up, revealing the figure to be Mega Man. He then leaps into the air and teleports out of the canyon, reappearing in an area similar to the stage intro screen from Mega Man 2 and striking a pose. A splash screen with the tagline "Mega Man rejoins the battle!" appears before cutting to a gameplay montage that first showcases Mega Man's basic attacks and then the ones he gains from Robot Masters.

After the montage, Mega Man gets attacked and launched around Skull Fortress by Mario, Kirby, Link, Ness, Fox, Yoshi, Pikachu, Donkey Kong, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, and Samus, in that order. He then stands back up and the screen zooms out to show all of the characters as the Super Smash Bros. logo appears in the background, followed by a recreation of the original Super Smash Bros.'s character selection screen, though Luigi is absent. After a moment, Luigi suddenly appears, using Super Jump Punch on Mega Man and then striking a pose as a splash screen with the tagline "Luigi slides in!" appears. It then cuts to a gameplay montage showcasing him with the SSF2 logo appearing at the end, ending the trailer.

Sandbag

SSF2 BETA A Newcomer Smashes In!

SSF2 BETA A Newcomer Smashes In!

Sandbag's reveal trailer, titled "A Newcomer Smashes In!", was released in SSF2 Dev Blog #5 on April 1, 2016. It opens with Captain Falcon training for an Online match with a motionless Sandbag on Waiting Room, which he is then transferred to. Suddenly, the stage's background changes, and CLEODBOT, a robot-like entity bearing the likeness of Gregory McLeod, installs himself onto one of the monitors. He then says that he "must become the bag" and possesses the Sandbag on the stage, leading it to leap forward as a splash screen with the tagline "Sandbag Smashes Back!" appears. A gameplay montage of the playable Sandbag is then shown, ending with Sandbag using its Final Smash against Bomberman, which acts as a reference to how Bomberman previously launched a Sandbag with a Home-Run Bat in the game's APEX 2015 teaser. The SSF2 logo then appears, ending the trailer.

This trailer (and the dev blog itself) was created as an April Fools' Day joke, as the date it was released and the absurdity of Sandbag being playable lead many people to think that Sandbag would not actually be playable in SSF2. However, two days later in SSF2 Dev Blog #5.1, Sandbag was revealed to actually be playable, with the joke actually being to trick people into thinking otherwise.

Sonic and Tails

SSF2 Beta Reach for the Stars

SSF2 Beta Reach for the Stars

Sonic's and Tails' resprites in Beta were revealed in a trailer titled "Reach for the Stars" released to YouTube on January 1, 2017. The trailer opens with Sonic and Tails taunting and standing idly with their sprites from v0.9b. Their lower halves are then shown as they walk forward, transitioning from their old sprites to their new sprites before they are then shown running, hovering, attacking, and taunting with their new new sprites. A splash screen with the tagline "Sonic & Tails Team Up For Battle!" appears, followed by a gameplay montage showcasing the two characters that ends with Sonic using his Final Smash, Super Sonic, which also showcases updated sprites. The SSF2 logo then appears, ending the trailer.

Simon

Super Smash Flash 2 Beta A new...ish challenger approaches

Super Smash Flash 2 Beta A new...ish challenger approaches.

Simon's reveal trailer, titled "A new...ish challenger approaches.", was released during Day 1 of McLeodGaming's Super Smash Con 2018 Twitch stream on August 10, 2018. The trailer makes fun of the fact that Simon had been revealed as a playable character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate a mere two days beforehand, as it opens with SSF2 developer Steven watching Simon's Ultimate reveal trailer. When Simon reveals himself in the trailer, Steven turns to the camera and is presumably about to swear before he is cut off by Simon's splash screen with the tagline "Simon Lashes Out! ...Again". It then cuts to a gameplay montage showcasing him, including several still images of Simon using various attacks. The montage ends with Simon taunting and the SSF2 logo then appears. The trailer itself ends with Steven saying how he "can't believe Luigi is just dead", referencing how Luigi's spirit is separated from his body by Death in the Ultimate trailer.

Krystal

SSF2 Beta Another newcomer appears!

SSF2 Beta Another newcomer appears!

Krystal's reveal trailer, titled "Another newcomer appears!" was released to YouTube during Day 2 of McLeodGaming's Super Smash Con 2018 Twitch stream on August 11, 2018. It is a short teaser that opens with the McLeodGaming logo and remains black for a moment, before changing to show Krystal taunting on a stage yet to be revealed. It then cuts to Krystal's splash screen with the tagline "Krystal Takes Command!" as Krystal says "Try me", ending the trailer.

It should be noted that this trailer was not actually used to reveal Krystal during the Twitch stream. Instead, she was revealed with the "Warning! Challenger Approaching!" screen used for unlockable characters in SSF2, followed by the splash screen.

Rayman and Waluigi

SSF2 Beta A double reveal special!

SSF2 Beta A double reveal special!

Rayman's and Waluigi's reveal trailer, titled "A double reveal special!", was shown during Day 3 of McLeodGaming's Super Smash Con 2018 Twitch stream on August 12, 2018. Like with Krystal's reveal, it uses the "Warning! Challenger Approaching!" screen used for unlockable characters to reveal Rayman, along with his splash screen with the tagline "Rayman Lends a Hand!" and his victory theme. Afterwards, the screen fades to black before slowly fading to purple, and the Wario series symbol suddenly appears as Waluigi says, "Yeah! Waluigi!". The trailer then ends with a message saying that Waluigi would begin development after the event and thanking the audience for tuning in.

Sora

SSF2 Beta v1

SSF2 Beta v1.2 A Second Chance

Sora's resprite in Beta 1.2 was revealed in a trailer titled "A Second Chance" released to YouTube on May 4, 2019, though it was teased on the channel through a YouTube premier the previous day. It was created by developer Tommy FriendAlias Le.

The trailer opens with a logo for the SSF2 team, followed by the text used in the beginning of KINGDOM HEARTS III trailers. It then shows gameplay of Sora fighting and getting KO'd by Pit, with Sora then shown in a recreation of KINGDOM HEARTS II's game over screen. The cursor selects "Continue" as the screen fades to black, and Sora's new resprite is then shown with his on-screen appearance, and a splash screen with the tagline "Sora Breaks the Chains!" appears. Various gameplay clips showcasing Sora's moveset are then shown.

For the second half of the trailer, the music changes, and both gameplay and prefabricated clips are shown. These clips show more of Sora's moveset and reference various scenes from the KINGDOM HEARTS series, with Riku being revealed as an Assist Trophy and Giga Bowser being officially revealed as Bowser's Final Smash. At the end of the trailer, Sora is shown with a Smash Ball on a stage yet to be revealed, and a portion of Waluigi's appearance is shown for the first time. Donald Duck and Goofy then appear alongside Sora to fight him, and the trailer ends with the SSF2 logo appearing.

Gameplay trailers

Unlike with reveal trailers, several trailers for SSF2 instead focus on a single previously announced or released character and simply show off raw gameplay featuring the character without the intention of revealing new content. Below is a list of these trailers in chronological order of release.

Mini-Trailers

MG icon Main article: Super Smash Flash 2 Mini-Trailer

The Super Smash Flash 2 Mini-Trailers, or SSF2 Mini-Trailers for short, are small compilations of videos showcased on McLeodGaming's YouTube channel, with each one featuring a single previously announced character. Because they are described as "concept trailers", these videos feature "prefabricated gameplay", showing dramatizations of the actual gameplay and how each character's moveset could work. They also led to speculate the appearances of some possible stages, which may or may not be included in the final game.

Below is a list of the four Mini-Trailers released in chronological order.

Mega Man

After Ichigo spots him, the trailer then showcases moves such as Snake's standard attack, entrance animation, and Hand Grenade, ending with Snake speaking into his Codec, "This is Snake. I'm done here."

As Snake is no longer confirmed to appear in SSF2, his Mini-Trailer is currently unlisted and cannot be accessed without an encrypted link.

Goku

Event trailers

Certain trailers are used to promote events McLeodGaming would be attending in the near future, such as APEX and Super Smash Con, to show off an upcoming demo. Below is a list of these trailers in chronological order of release.

SSF2 Version v0.9b Trailer

The official trailer for v0.9b of the demo was released to YouTube on January 15, 2014 to promote its appearance at APEX 2014, which would start two days later. Much like the initial trailer for SSF2, the first half of this trailer is based directly on the reveal trailer for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, featuring the same music, many of the same events, and even the same sound effects before cutting to a separate segment to reveal Zero Suit Samus.

It opens with Mario, Link, Kirby, and Pikachu, who appear with their sprites from v0.9a of the demo before they change to the sprites featured in v0.9b. The SSF2 logo then appears, followed by footage of the four characters fighting on Battlefield and Castle Siege. Electrode, Magikarp, and Chatot are shown, as well as Final Smashes including Mario Finale, Triforce Slash, and Cook Kirby. Mega Man, Black Mage, and Bomberman then join the other four characters fighting on Skyward Voyage as the Beedle Ship takes off, revealing Meta Knight standing on it. He fights the other characters before Lloyd dives down with Rising Falcon. Meta Knight and Lloyd fight atop the ship for a while before Samus appears and uses Zero Laser, causing the two to flee as the laser covers the screen.

A silhouette of Zero Suit Samus is then shown alongside her portrait art before the light fades, revealing her on Final Destination as text of her name displays underneath her. It then cuts to a gameplay montage showcasing her, and the trailer ends with text displaying the dates and website where v0.9b of the demo would be streamed during APEX 2014.

APEX 2015

New Version of Super Smash Flash 2 Playable at Apex 2015

It opens with Isaac walking across Desk before stomping due to a loud rumbling. After looking around, he then runs off followed by multiple other characters before the APEX 2015 logo displays. Information of the event's dates, address, and website is also shown, along with the link to McLeodGaming's Twitch stream. The trailer then ends with the rumbling revealed to be coming from a Sandbag, who then hops to the left before being launched by a Home-Run Bat from Bomberman, which also served as a teaser to Home-Run Contest.

Other trailers

Below is a list of trailers made for miscellaneous purposes, such as April Fools' Day jokes, in chronological order.

An Incredible Newcomer!

An Incredible Newcomer!

An Incredible Newcomer!

On April 1, 2014, McLeodGaming uploaded a trailer to their YouTube channel which supposedly revealed Mr. Incredible as a playable character in SSF2. It opens with Zero Suit Samus, Ness, Zelda, and Kirby running off the edges of Final Destination, where Mr. Incredible is then shown standing in the center. A few gameplay clips are then shown for him, but aside from basic movements like walking and jumping, he is only shown using one attack, which was used as his down attack in the original Super Smash Flash. The screen then goes black for 20 seconds with no music, and the trailer ends with Mega Man using his side taunt at Mr. Incredible at the last second.

The following day, the name and description of the video were edited to show that this was, in fact, an April Fools' Day joke and that Mr. Incredible would not actually be playable in the game.
