La Danse Sourir is the ninetieth level of Yeah Jam Fury: U, Me, Everybody!. To access it, the player must clear seventy levels.

Overview[]

This level is unique among every other level in the game in that it features a unique theme: Danse. At certain musical cues, the screen will briefly rumble and the player's perspective will be flipped horizontally, causing the left and right inputs to move the player in the opposite directions.

A-Side[]

The layout of the level mainly consists of a series of walls and platforms of Steel Blocks and Ice Blocks that the player must traverse to reach the end, where the mango resides. The perspective of the level flips once at a musical cue that occurs about four seconds after the level starts.

The player starts at a Jam-Only Flag on a platform with two large walls surrounding it. Using Jam, the player must boost up to the top of the walls and drop down to the platform on the right (left when flipped). They then must boost up a much taller set of walls with fewer Steel Blocks and more Ice Blocks, requiring more precise boosts, as well as two Ice Blocks acting as a platform at about halfway up the walls. They then must drop off to the other side of the wall and fall through the gap on the right (left when flipped), where they then must boost across various short walls of Steel Blocks with Ice Blocks at the tops. The mango can then be reached by boosting up to the Ice Block platforms to the left (right when flipped).

B-Side[]

The B-Side version of this level shares an identical layout, except it is flipped horizontally. Additionally, the screen now flips back and forth at certain intervals timed with the music, rather than simply flipping one time at the start.

Trivia[]

  • This level is named after Danse macabre, a French musical composition by Camille Saint-Saëns that the level plays an arrangement of for its music track.
  • The name of this level roughly translates in English to "The Smiling Dance", which may refer to the smiles on Yeah or Yellow Blocks, though neither is present in this level.
  • According to William Abeel, the game's director and main designer, the A-Side version of this level was initially planned to be the current B-Side version, with the B-Side version planned to feature a more varied layout. However, this was changed due to it being considered too difficult for an A-Side level.
  • With the perspective flipped on this stage, the cursor incorrectly points toward the player character when facing left or right.
  • This is the only level in the game to not play the Stage Complete music track when completed.
  • Of the levels in the game to feature an exclusive theme, including Oh Love, Z-Mart, Happy Birthday, and The Ghost Lingers, this is the only one where the theme is available in the Stage Builder.
  • This is one of the only levels in the game where a song that is not present in the game's official soundtrack plays, with the others being Oh Love and Credits.
