This article is about Krystal's appearance in Super Smash Flash 2. For general information about the character, see Krystal.
Krystal is a newcomer unlockablecharacter in Super Smash Flash 2. Her reveal was shown during the Day 2 livestream at Super Smash Con 2018. Her appearance is based on her design in the game Star Fox Command. Her moveset consists mainly of attacks using her staff from Star Fox Adventures, as well as certain weapons along with her voice lines being taken from Star Fox: Assault.
Due to her attributes, Krystal is ranked 2nd in the current tier list, placing her at the S+ tier. Krystal is a combo-heavy character, much like the other Star Fox characters. In addition to being one of the fastest characters in the game in terms of running speed, she is also very powerful. Her tilt attacks are useful to keep opponents away, as well as start combos and even KO at high percentages. Her smash attacks are powerful, with her down smash in particular creating a powerful wave that hits enemies a considerable distance away (though with not as high potency as getting sweetspotted by the staff). Her special moves have strong utility as well, with her side special move, Krystal Rush, being a quick combo starter and horizontal recovery move. Her neutral special move, Sniper Rifle, is a long-ranged projectile with strong knockback that can also be aimed, making it useful for edgeguarding and covering large distances. Her down special move, Grenade, is another effective projectile that can interrupt the opponent's recovery if she manages to throw it with the proper range on the enemy. Her grabs and throws are also among the fastest in the game, and her aerial attacks are very strong as well, with her down aerial being a powerful meteor smash when the sweetspot is landed.
Despite her strong atrributes, Krystal has several weaknesses. In addition to her high falling speed, she is also among the lightest characters in the game, making it easy for Krystal herself to be caught in combos and KO'd early. This is compounded by her recovery, which covers a relatively short distance and is very linear. In addition, her special moves, while powerful, are quite predictable and can leave her vulnerable if she misses, with Sniper Rifle in particular suffering from high startup and ending lag.
Quickly swings her staff forwards, kicks twice while spinning in place, and finishes with a spinning back kick. The first hit pulls opponents into the remainder of the attack, which proves it very reliable.
Crouches and swings one of her legs out in a sweeping motion around her. Its low upward knockback coupled with its low ending lag makes it a versatile combo starter
Plants her staff on the ground and attacks with a twirling kick. It has low endlag, stops all of Krystal's forward momentum, turns her around, and sends opponents backward, making it useful for combos. Can also combo into her forward smash at mid-range percentages.
Does a high jump and slams her staff into the ground, dealing high knockback and creating a massive shockwave that can trip opponents nearby. More knockback is dealt if opponents are hit by Krystal's staff than the shockwave.
Performs two forward kicks. The first hit deals set knockback, which allows it to combo into the second hit. The attack is very powerful, though it has moderate ending lag.
Thrusts her staff upward, which will then shoot a short-ranged beam. It can serve as a follow-up to her up smash, with the sweetspot dealing impressive vertical knockback.
Thrusts her staff downward and shoots a low-ranged beam downwards. The sweetspot is at the end of the staff and meteor smashes opponents, as well as causing Krystal to bounce upward.
Throws the opponent downward, then freezes them with her staff. Due to the game's freeze mechanics, the opponent will be able to act out instantly, making this a generally poor option.
Fires a powerful laser from a sniper rifle. The move can be held and aimed by pressing up or down, though the move has a considerable amount of ending lag, making it risky to use offstage.
Rushes forward with a kick, bouncing off opponents, which she can use to set up combos. In the air, she shoots diagonally downward with a divekick. The aerial version keeps her horizontal momentum, and does not leave her helpless, though it has a sizable amount of lag. It can also be canceled using a ledge to keep her momentum in the air.
Activates a rocket within her staff, which she uses to travel a short distance upward. The first hit meteor smashes opponents, and the second hit deals high knockback.
A short excerpt from the title theme of Star Fox 64. It is also similar to the flourish that plays whenever Fox successfully completes a mission in the same game.
