The Ice Flower (アイスフラワー) is a power-up in the Mario series that grants the ability to shoot iceballs, therefore, it is the polar opposite of the original Fire Flower. It is also an item appearing in Super Smash Flash 2.

Overview

As the opposite of the Fire Flower, the Ice Flower behaves similarly to how the latter does, but rather shooting a short-ranged series of iceballs as opposed to fireballs. There are chances the ice balls may freeze the opponent. Once it can no longer shoot, it will emit a harmless smoke to indicate that. Throwing the Flower at opponents results in icy damage. The appearance of the Ice Flower is the current design used since Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, which became the staple for the Ice Flower's design in following entries of the series, starting with Super Mario Galaxy.

The Ice Flower debuted in the game Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time having a similar effect to the Bros. Flower (the name used to refer to the Fire Flower in the game), but allowing the Mario Bros. and their baby counterparts to shoot iceballs instead of fireballs while also being able to randomly lower the enemies' stats. Super Mario Galaxy is the game that included the Ice Flower for the first time as a common power-up, temporarily turning Mario and Luigi into Ice Mario and Ice Luigi, respectively, allowing them to cross cold water and lava by creating hexagonal platforms of ice wherever they step on either surface. It was not until New Super Mario Bros. Wii that the Ice Flower got is defining traits, the Ice form from Super Mario Galaxy would change into a completely different form, that serves as an opposite to Fire Mario, allowing the players to shoot iceballs to freeze enemies. The color of the clothing would be similar to Fire Mario's, but with blue accents as opposed to white.
