Hylian Skies is a starter stage in Super Smash Flash 2, based on the Light and Dark Worlds from the game The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Layout[]
Hylian Skies consists of a large main platform with multiple elevations, with the middle being the lowest point. The left side is the highest point and has a small staircase on its left, which is sloped upward toward the edge. The right side has two small sections of slightly increasing elevation. In the background, a Fairy and the Flute Boy's Bird fly across the sky.
With hazardss turned on, the stage transitions into the Dark World after about 45 seconds, which is indicated by an ominous sound and a shrinking iris that surrounds the stage with flashing negative colors. The Dark World is a horizontally flipped version of the default layout, known as the Light World, except with a different visual design, including Ganon's bat form and Irene flying through the background. The stage later returns to the Light World, transitioning in the same way as before.
Music[]
- The main music track is Dark World, a synthesized dramatic remix of the overworld themes of the Dark World and Light World from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
- One of the alternate music tracks is Hyrule Castle (Interior), an orchestral remix of the theme that plays inside Hyrule Castle in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
- The other alternate music track is Death Mountain, a symphonic orchestral remix of the mountain and forest themes of the Dark World from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Tournament legality[]
Hylian skies is banned in tournament play. The bowl shape of the stage makes horizontal KOs difficult, while the high walls can greatly extend combos beyond reason. The edges of the stage are powerful camping locations as well.

Hylian Skies, though not a specific location in The Legend of Zelda series, is based on the motifs in the game The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. This game primarily takes place in the Kingdom of Hyrule, also referred to as the Light World, where Link journeys to rescue Princess Zelda and the kingdom as a whole. After his initial encounter with the evil wizard Agahnim, Link is transported to the Dark World, a parallel dimension to the Light World that became dark and twisted due to Ganon's control of the Triforce. The layouts of the two worlds are very similar to each other, with the main difference being the Dark World's Pyramid of Power replacing the Light World's Hyrule Castle. After obtaining the Magic Mirror, Link is able to transport between the Light World and Dark World at will.
The transition between the two stage layouts references the way Link transports between the two worlds in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and the inverted layouts reference the Dark World's twisted nature. The two layouts' visual designs and various background elements are based on their respective dimensions in the game, such as the Weathercock in the Light World's Kakariko Village and its corresponding Gargoyle in the Dark World's Village of Outcasts, and their backgrounds are based on their respective overworld maps. The stage also includes several visual elements inspired by the game's indirect sequel, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, such as an image of Lorule's Triforce and the background character Irene appearing in the Dark World. The Weathercock in the Light World also contains Hylian script characters from this game, which translate to "SAVE", referencing its use as a save and warping point in the game.
