Guardian, known in Japan as Refine Guarding Position (粋護陣) was originally Lloyd's down special move in Super Smash Flash 2 before being replaced by Grave Blade in v0.8a.
Overview[]
When performed, Lloyd would summon a large green orb around himself for a few moments, which would blink in and out and shrink every time it appears. While visible, the orb was able to render Lloyd invincible, as well as reflect projectiles. It was also originally able to parry attacks, as Lloyd would instead move away from the attacker with his green shield still up. If he is attacked when his orb was not visible, Lloyd could still be damaged, though he would still move away in the same way he would with the shield up.
Origin[]
The Guardian arte was first introduced in Tales of Symphonia as a defensive skill that is used to block against enemy damage. Guardian defends against all enemy attacks and spells for a short time, usually one or two seconds, significantly decreasing all enemy damage while leaving the character immobile with a noticeable cool-down delay after the skill effect ends.
The arte can be performed by three of the characters in Tales of Symphonia: Lloyd Irving, Kratos Aurion, and Zelos Wilder. Additionally, all of the other characters have their own variant of Guardian, named differently in both the Japanese and English versions: Damage Guard (レデュース・ダメージ), Force Field (フォースフィールド), Guardian Seal (衝弾符), Earthly Protection (地精陣), and Bastion (不剄). All of these artes provide exactly the same effect as Guardian, with the same 10% of max TP cost.
