When performed, a large black coffin appears in front of Simon. If opponents are nearby when the coffin appears, it will open and trap them inside, dealing 5% damage. Simon then appears in a graveyard, where he grabs the coffin with his whip and says "Away!" before flipping it into the sky and in front of the moon. He then powerfully flexes backward, and shouts "Grand Cross!" as crosses of holy light erupt from the ground, repeatedly attacking the coffin and dealing 40% damage and strong knockback to the opponents trapped. As the opponents are launched, Simon reappears on the stage, ending the move.
The Grand Cross is a technique in the Castlevania series that involves using large crosses to deal immense damage. Due to its power, it is very difficult to use, given the resources needed to successfully pull it off. There are several variations of the technique performed by many different members of the Belmont Clan, including Simon Belmont in Castlevania Judgment. However, the move in SSF2 is specifically based on its original appearance in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, where it is performed by Richter Belmont. In this game, it is an Item Crash attack in which Richter equips the Cross as his sub-weapon and spends fifteen hearts to use it. When performed, a giant crucifix appears behind Richter and flashing crosses rise up from the bottom, covering the whole screen and dealing heavy damage to opponents. The energy-like appearance of the crosses may be based on how the move appears in the game's opening.
