This article is about the technique originally present in Super Smash Flash 2. For one of Sora's old up special moves, see Glide.
Gliding Sora

Sora performing a glide around on Castle Wily.

Gliding (滑空) is a technique that was introduced in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and was originally present in Super Smash Flash 2. It allowed the character to move through the air at a fast pace without losing much vertical height in the process. The player could angle the glide downwards to dive, increasing speed but losing height, or upwards to climb, gaining height but losing speed. It was possible to stall the glide and end it prematurely if the player attempted to climb too high. The player could also use a glide attack by pressing the attack button, which would also cancel the glide. Once gliding, the character could not turn around until the glide ended. Gliding after using one's final midair jump would put one's character into a helpless state when it ended. The technique was originally used by Sora and Meta Knight, but it was removed in Beta.

The floating and hovering abilities are similar, in that they dramatically increase one's horizontal recovery. However, floating has a time limit, and both have free horizontal movement and no vertical movement. The player can activate Peach and Goku's floating ability and Tails' hovering ability by holding onto the jump button after jumping.
