Flat Zone + is a starter stage in Super Smash Flash 2. It is heavily inspired by the "Flat Zone" stages in the Super Smash Bros. series and comprises elements from several different Game & Watch games. It serves as the home stage for Mr. Game & Watch.
Layout[]
Flat Zone + is a stage taking place inside of a Game & Watch device, and the edges of the stage are covered by a thick, metallic border labeled "SUPER SMASH FLASH" at the top. It consists of three main platforms at the bottom of the stage extending to the bottom blast line and separated by narrow gaps, with the leftmost one being the longest and extending to the left blast line. There are two vertically oriented soft platforms above these platforms, which each span most of the length of the main platforms. Directly to the right of the main platforms is a body of water with a small turtle, which acts as a soft platform and slowly moves back and forth. Above this, there is a large hard platform that extends to the right blast line.
Music[]
- The main music track is Flat Zone 2, an electronic remix of the theme of the same name from Super Smash Bros. Brawl that includes various sound effects a Game & Watch system would typically make.
- The alternate music track is Funky Zone, an original funky composition that includes various sound effects a Game & Watch system would typically make.
Tournament Legality[]
This stage is banned in competitive play. It features walkoffs and pits that make recovery difficult for characters such as Ness.
Origin[]

A Manhole unit (top) and a Turtle Bridge unit (bottom).
Flat Zone + is based on the Game & Watch series of handheld electronic games, which use an LCD screen in which visuals are limited to pre-determined images. The stage adopts the simplistic visuals found on a Game & Watch unit and is shown to take place inside one, particularly a Wide Screen unit, which was first used for the game Parachute in 1981 and used a wider screen than previous models. The stage is named and structured after similar "Flat Zone" stages from throughout the Super Smash Bros. games, including Flat Zone from Super Smash Bros. Melee, Flat Zone 2 from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Flat Zone X from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. However, these stages directly recreate particular Game & Watch games, whereas Flat Zone + instead creates an original layout combining elements from multiple games.
The platforms on the lower left side of the stage are based on Manhole, in which the player moves between four gaps while holding up a manhole cover to prevent pedestrians from falling into the sewers below. Much like a single row of ground in the game, there are three platforms constructed of red bricks and separated by two gaps. The lower right side of the stage is based on Turtle Bridge, in which the player controls a tourist using five turtles as stepping stones to deliver baggage across a lake, though the turtles occasionally dive for fish and putting the tourist in danger of falling into the lake. Additionally, the platforms above these are based on those used in the "Flat Zone" stages throughout the Super Smash Bros. games. Particularly, the long platforms on the left are based on the soft platforms used in each of these stages, and the large platform on the right is based on the Ω forms of Flat Zone 2 in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Flat Zone X in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
