Effect Fire Mario jumps diagonally upward with a flaming fist out before plummeting to the ground.

Flaming Jump Punch was originally Fire Mario's up special move in Super Smash Flash 2. As of v0.9b of the SSF2 Demo, Mario's Final Smash has been replaced with Mario Finale, removing Fire Mario and taking Flaming Jump Punch with it.

When performed, the move would work similarly to Mario's Super Jump Punch: Fire Mario would jump diagonally upwards with his fist extended upwards and covered in fire. After rising a high distance upwards, Fire Mario would surround himself in a ball of fire and roll forward while suspended in the air. The player could control Fire Mario's horizontal movement in this state, and after a few moments, he would plummet head-first like a meteor while covered in fire until finally landing on the ground, creating a small explosion. Opponents could be hit by making contact with the fire at any point during the move, dealing multiple hits of 1% damage and weak knockback each. Like with Super Jump Punch, each hit produced coins that appeared over the opponent.

The move was a very effective recovery move, as it would send Fire Mario farther vertically and horizontally than the regular Super Jump Punch. Additionally, using an aerial attack at any point during the move would cancel it completely, allowing Fire Mario to use the move continuously.

Early designs

  • Prior to v0.8a of the SSF2 Demo, only the rising portion of the move was included, and Fire Mario would rise a much greater height when using the move.
    • Prior to v0.5a, this punch was instead a spinning uppercut similar to the Shōryūken (昇龍拳) from the Street Fighter series.
