The damage meter, also called the damage counter, player display, or HUD, among other names, is a UI element in the Super Smash Flash series and Fraymakers displayed during gameplay that presents basic information and status for each player at a glance. True to its name, the meter most prominently keeps track of a player's damage or HP. In a time match, the damage meter will also show when a player wins or loses a point. In a stock match, the player's remaining stocks are displayed.

In the original Super Smash Flash, each player's damage meter is displayed at the bottom of the screen and accompanied only by an icon of the respective character. Stocks are represented by this icon, and upon losing all of their stocks, the player's damage meter disappears.

In Super Smash Flash 2[]

In Super Smash Flash 2, each player's damage meter is displayed at the bottom of the screen and superimposed over a background featuring the character's name, and artwork, and series symbol. If the player uses a name, it will appear instead of the name of the character. If turned on, stocks are represented by an icon above the damage percentage, scores are shown in the upper right corner, and the Final Smash Meter is shown at the bottom. Certain characters also have additional information located on the damage meter, such as Sora's Command Deck icons.

The color of a human player's damage meter depends on their player number: Player 1 is red, Player 2 is blue, Player 3 is yellow, and Player 4 is green. Players controlled by CPUs use a gray color. Damage meters become translucent if a character goes behind them. The damage percentage itself changes color when more damage is accumulated, shifting from white at low percentages to red at high percentages. A player's damage percentage will disappear if they are KO'd, and upon losing all of their stocks, their damage meter disappears.

In Fraymakers[]

In Fraymakers, each player's damage meter is displayed at the bottom of the screen by default, which can changed to a different side of the screen in the gameplay menu. They consist of a large rectangle with the damage on the left side, the character's name below it, and a more pixelated version of their artwork in a rotated square. The Assist meter is represented by the rectangle, and upon completely filling, the Assist is shown on the left side. Stocks are represented by small bars above the Assist meter. Certain characters also have additional information located on the damage meter, such as Welltaro's ammunition or the Watcher's Mantra.

The background of a player's damage meter depends on their player number: Player 1 is red, Player 2 is blue, Player 3 is purple, and Player 4 is green. The damage number and character artwork shake upon being attacked, and like in SSF2, the color of the damage value changes based on how much is accumulated. Additionally, the character's artwork changes expressions based on what actions are performed: it appears hurt when being attacked, happy when scoring a KO, sad when being KO'd, and angry when calling an Assist.
