Rollout (ころがる) is a recurring attack in the Pokémon games which is usable by Jigglypuff in the Super Smash Flash series.

Overview[]

When performed, Jigglypuff curls into a ball and rolls across the stage, damaging opponents in the way.

In Super Smash Flash[]

In the original Super Smash Flash, Rollout is Jigglypuff's down attack. Unlike how it works in the Super Smash Bros. games, Rollout functions just like all of the other rolling attacks in the game. The move simply has Jigglypuff roll a fixed distance forward at a high speed while occasionally saying "Puff!", and it cannot be charged or turned around. Opponents hit are dealt 6% damage per frame.

In Super Smash Flash 2[]

The reboot, Super Smash Flash 2, has Rollout as Jigglypuff's neutral special move. The attack has been reworked so now it works identically to its Super Smash Bros. counterpart, allowing Jigglypuff to charge up the attack and turn around mid-roll. The attack can be charged for as long as the player desires, and Jigglypuff will shout "Jigglypuff!" to indicate that the move is fully charged. The move becomes faster, deals more damage, lasts longer, and takes longer to turn around the longer it is charged, dealing 6% damage uncharged and 13% damage fully charged, as well as decent vertical knockback. The move also deals 3% damage to opponents making contact while Jigglypuff is turning around. Additionally, the speed of the move when fully charged makes it an effective horizontal recovery tool, and Jigglypuff can also grab ledges when using the move.

Origin[]

Rollout is a damage-dealing Rock-type move that was introduced in the Generation II Pokémon games, Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver. Learned mostly by spherical Pokémon, including Jigglypuff, it consists of the user rolling into the opponent to deal damage over the course of two to five turns in a row, with each turn dealing double the damage of the last, though its base power will reset if the attack misses.

Trivia[]

  • Rollout in SSF has the second longest travelling range in the game, only behind Sonic's Spin Dash.
  • When Kirby copies Jigglypuff with Inhale in SSF2 and uses Rollout, he says "Purin!", Jigglypuff's Japanese name.
