Grenade is Krystal's down special move in Super Smash Flash 2.

Overview

When performed, Krystal pulls out a small yellow grenade and then throws it forward. After a short period of time or upon bouncing on the ground twice or hitting an opponent, the grenade will explode and engulf a small radius for a short period of time. The explosion deals multiple hits of 9% damage total and moderate knockback to opponents hit. The player can also charge the move by holding the special input before throwing the grenade, with higher charges causing the grenade to be thrown farther before exploding. At the lowest charge, the grenade travels a very short distance, but at the highest charge, it travels very far. Additionally, upon pulling the grenade out, the player is able to turn around before being able to charge the move, and they can turn around again just before throwing it.

The Grenade is an explosive weapon used by the Star Fox team in Star Fox: Assault. Unlike most other weapons in the game, it is a throwable weapon that explodes a short time after being thrown. The explosion produced is large and powerful, but unlike in SSF2, it can also damage the user. The throwing button can also be held to "charge" the grenade, causing it to explode sooner after being thrown, but charging for too long will cause it to explode before being thrown.

Trivia

• Grenade is one of Krystal's attacks in SSF2 that take inspiration from the Mii Gunner in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, being similar to Grenade Launch, one of the Mii Gunner's available neutral special moves.
• The explosion created from the grenade is based on that of the Smart Bomb, even using a similar effect.
• Early in Krystal's development, it was considered that she would be able to hold her grenades like an item, similarly to Link's Bomb. However, this idea was scrapped due to how it would not work well with Krystal's playstyle, as it would restrict access to many of her other moves.
