This article is about the All-Star Rest Area as it appears in Super Smash Flash 2. For the Super Smash Flash incarnation, see All-Star Rest Area (Super Smash Flash).

The All-Star Rest Area (オールスター休憩所) is a special stage in Super Smash Flash 2 that appears between battles in All-Star. It is based on the recurring stage of the same name in the Super Smash Bros. series that serves the same purpose.

Layout[]

The All-Star Rest Area consists of a path across a waterfall in a forest, being a mostly flat hard platform with a slope at its leftmost portion. Players are unable to self-destruct, as there are walls and ceilings where the camera ends. There are three soft platforms on the right side of the stage, each normally containing a healing item. There is a teleporter at the center of the stage, which transports the player to the next battle upon being stepped on, and activating it while healing will cause the player to abruptly stop healing.

During All-Star, the opponents to be fought in the next match are displayed as square icons on the left side of the stage. Previously defeated opponents are displayed throughout the foreground and background as trophies. The healing items that appear are decided by the difficulty chosen by the player — Energy Tanks at Easy, Heart Containers at Normal, Maxim Tomatoes at Hard, and mere food at Insane difficulty — and do not reappear between rounds upon being picked up. The player is otherwise unable to heal on this stage, though they may still take recoil damage.

Music[]

There are four different music tracks that interchangeably play in a specific order whenever the player clears a match in All-Star and returns to the All-Star Rest Area. The music tracks are the following:

  • The first music track is Rest Area (SSF2), a calm remix of the main theme. It plays after the first, fifth, and ninth matches.
  • The second music track is Rest Area (Melee), a calm remix of the All-Star Rest Area theme from Super Smash Bros. Melee, which in turn originates from the save point music from Kirby Super Star. It plays after the second and sixth matches.
  • The third music track is Rest Area (Brawl), a calm remix of the main theme of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It plays after the third and seventh matches.
  • The fourth music track is Rest Area (Smash 4), a calm remix of the main theme of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. It plays after the fourth and eighth matches.

Origin[]

Rest Area origin

A save point in The Great Cave Offensive from Kirby Super Star.

As mentioned, the All-Star Rest Area is based on the stage of the same name throughout the Super Smash Bros. series, originating in Super Smash Bros. Melee, which serves the same purpose in each game's respective All-Star mode, as well as the Boss Battles mode in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The design of the stage in SSF2 combines elements from multiple All-Star Rest Areas throughout the series, such as the lightly forested background in Super Smash Bros. Melee, the floating platforms in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and the path over water in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

The concept of a resting area between fights with optional healing items is based on Kirby Super Star, which features similar resting areas in The Great Cave Offensive and The Arena sub-games. The All-Star Rest Area is much more similar to the resting area in The Arena, which serves a similar purpose of transporting the player between fights with a limited amount of healing items, though the music track from Super Smash Bros. Melee is instead an arrangement of the resting area theme from The Great Cave Offensive.
