Aura Sphere (はどうだん) is Lucario's neutral special move in Super Smash Flash 2.

Overview[]

When performed, Lucario holds its paws back and creates a sphere of aura energy into them, which slowly charges as Lucario holds it. While charging, the sphere becomes bigger and more powerful up to a certain point, which is indicated by it flashing. The sphere can also hit opponents while charging, dealing 1% damage with weak knockback each hit. When the special input is pressed again, Lucario will throw this sphere forward, which travels quickly forward until it travels a certain distance or hits an opponent or wall. Lucario can also shield, sidestep, or roll while charging in order to cancel the charge and store it until he uses the move again or gets KOed.

Similarly to Lucario's other aura-based moves, Aura Sphere becomes bigger and more powerful based on how much damage Lucario has accumulated. When Lucario has 0% damage, the projectile ranges from a small sphere dealing 4% damage with weak knockback to a medium-sized sphere dealing 11% damage and moderate knockback. However, when Lucario has 190% damage, the projectile ranges from a medium-sized sphere dealing 8% damage with moderate knockback to a large sphere dealing 24% damage and strong knockback.

Origin[]

AuraSphereGenVII

Aura Sphere being used in Generation VII games.

Aura Sphere is a damage-dealing Fighting-type move introduced in Generation IV, described as a blast of aura power released from deep within the user's body. The move inflicts damage with a base power of 90 in Generation IV and Generation V, and 80 in Generation VI and onwards. It also bypasses accuracy checks to always hit its target, unless the target is in the semi-invulnerable turn of a move such as Dig or Fly, and can hit non-adjacent targets in Triple Battles. In , Aura Sphere's power is 90, though this was changed to 80. Additionally, in Generation VI and onwards, the move's power is boosted by 50% if the user has Mega Launcher, and does not affect Pokémon with the ability Bulletproof.

Lucario learns this attack by leveling up in all games since its introduction, and is often associated with it. Sir aaron's Luacrio's use of Aura Sphere is featured prominently in his movie (Lucario and the Mystery of Mew) as the prime example of Lucario's ability to manipulate Aura. Furthermore, all but one [1] have used Aura Sphere in the anime.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike in the official Super Smash Bros. games, Kirby's version of the move is affected by how much damage is dealt to him.
  • If Lucario's damage percentage is changed as of when he has a fully charge Aura Sphere, when fired it re-scales to his current percent whether he was healed or dealt more damage.
  • Lucario's pose when charging it resembles Ryu's when the latter is using the Hadoken.
    • Furthermore, both moves are very similar, both being blue orbs of energy with similar names.
