The Ape is the titular protagonist of the beat 'em up game APE OUT. It appears as an Assist character in Fraymakers.

Character description[]

In APE OUT, the player controls a gorilla simply referred to as the Ape, who is depicted as a purely orange figure in the shape of one. Each of the game's four different "discs" depicts the Ape encaged in a different scenario, including a testing facility, a tall city building, a military base, and a container ship. Pent up with rage and having a primal desire to escape captivity, the Ape breaks out of each cage and runs toward freedom while its armed captors attempt to shoot it down. The Ape is able to kill most of its captors with a single two-handed punch, and it can also grab captors to use as shields or throw to their deaths. However, the Ape itself can also be easily killed with firearms.

The Ape Cut-In

The Ape's cut-in.

The Ape is one of the Assist characters in Fraymakers, and it is one of the twenty Assists available at the launch of its Early Access release. When called upon, it appears a short distance in front of the player and runs in the opposite direction. Upon making contact with an opponent, it grabs them and throws them forward as the sound of a cymbal plays, dealing 10 damage and powerful knockback. When timed properly, this can allow the Ape to launch the opponent directly toward the player, setting up for a follow-up. It can also be effective for edgeguarding when used off-stage or near the edge of the stage.

It takes 90 damage to fully charge the Ape.

In-game description[]

Runs toward you from a distance out in front. If it runs into an opponent, it will throw them forward. Try hitting an enemy then using Ape to throw them back to you!

Trivia[]

Ape Throw

The Ape's unused appearance in Fraymakers.

  • For the Ape's function in Fraymakers, it was initially planned to appear closer to the player upon being called upon and charge forward. However, this was changed due to being deemed too similar to Peppino and Rockman.
