The Deku Nut can be picked up to be thrown or attacked. If the Deku Nut hits any wall, it will explode and any character who is in the vicinity will be stunned, while receiving a 13% of damage, the same will happen if it is attacked. If thrown at an opponent, it will deal 19% and a lot of knockback, but will not otherwise stun the opponent.
Deku Nuts first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. They normally appear after slaying an enemy called Deku Baba, whose bud turns into a Deku Nut after drying. Link may also found them by cutting grass or breaking pots. By equipping Deku Nuts, Link is able to throw them in the ground to produce a blinding flash that temporality stun enemies, leaving them open for attacks; this was translated into SSF2 very accurately and is one of the more faithful item's functions compared to its origin games. A minimal difference lies in that Deku Nuts are never triggered by themselves in Ocarina of Time or in any other game they appeared, unlike in SSF2. Enemies like Deku Scrubs use Deku Nuts as projectiles to attack Link, but these variants do not produce a flash otherwise.
