A chain grab (sometimes called chain throw) refers to a series of grabs and throws that the victim cannot break away from, this is the true definition of a chain grab because after the throw the opponent is in range of being grabbed again and again. A chain throw is when a player throws the opponent a specific direction (most commonly down or up), chases the enemy's directional influence, and grabs the opponent while he/she is still in mid-air and before he/she can tech. Generally, heavier or larger characters tend to be more vulnerable to chain grabs than lighter or smaller characters. Going along with this, Samus is more susceptible to horizontal chain grabs then to vertical ones due to her heavy weight and slow falling speed. While Fox is more susceptible to vertical chain grabs then to horizontal ones due to his fast falling speed and light weight.

Characters who can chain grab

  • Sora can chain grab characters with his down throw. However, it is relatively easy to DI out of.
  • Goku can chain grab big characters/fast fallers with his up throw at very low percentages. He can chain grab with his down throw. It is easier to use the down throw chain grab while using Kaio-Ken.
  • Peach can chain grab heavy characters and fast fallers with her up throw from 0% to around 30%. She is able to chain grab certain characters with her down throw.
  • Link can chain grab fast fallers and big characters with his down throw until 48%-50%. Can also chain grab with his up throw.
  • Lloyd can chain throw with his forward throw at relatively low percentages due to its high knockback. He can chain grab with his back throw at low percentages. He can also chain grab with his down throw with precise timing at low to mid percentages.
  • Captain Falcon can chain grab big character and fast fallers with his up/down throw until at high percentages. He can dash grab chain grab with his forward throw on certain characters at specific percents. light and floaty characters at low percentages while fast fallers at medium percentages.
  • Mario can chain grab fast fallers and big characters with his down/up throw until 50%.
  • Sonic can chain grab with his up throw; however, he must move away from the opponent a little bit every time he does this throw. He can also chain grab with his forward throw. He can chain grab floaty characters at low percentages with his down throw.
  • Ichigo can chain grab big characters and fast fallers with his forward/up/down throw. Forward throw stops chain grabbing after a few throws. Down throw is harder to do.
  • Fox can chain throw with his forward throw at low percentages due to his great ground mobility.
  • Sheik can chain grab with her down throw on heavy or fast falling characters at low to medium percentages. Needs to dash regrab.
  • Meta Knight can chain grab with his down throw, but it is easy for opponents to escape. Can chain throw with his forward throw.
  • Kirby can chain grab with his down throw, but is is easy to get out of.
  • Ness can chain grab with his down throw certain characters from 0% to around 30 to 50%.
  • Donkey Kong can chain grab big characters and fast fallers with his down/up throw.
  • Naruto can chain throw with his forward throw.
  • Wario can chain grab heavy characters and fast fallers with his forward/down throw. Can also lead into a Wario Waft.
  • Pikachu can chain grab with his forward/down throw. He can also Chain grab with his up throw, but it is easier for opponents to DI out of.
  • Yoshi can chain grab with his down throw at low percentages.
  • Jigglypuff can chain grab with its down throw at low percentages. Able to chain grab with its up throw.
  • Bomberman can chain grab with his up and down throw at low percentages.
  • Mega Man can chain grab with his up throw at low percentages. Can jab reset chain grab with his down throw.
  • Black Mage can chain throw with his down throw.
  • Zelda can chain grab big characters and fast fallers with her up throw.
  • Samus can chain grab big characters and fast fallers with her down throw.
