Captain Viridian is the main protagonist of the platforming game VVVVVV.

Character description[]

Captain Viridian is a cyan-colored Villi, a humanoid alien with a blocky appearance. Like many Villi, Viridian has the ability to flip the direction of gravity relative to themselves, allowing them to fall either upwards or downwards. They are the captain of the D.S.S. Souleye, a spaceship run by a crew of six Villi that can travel between dimensions. While searching through dimensions for a solution to their home dimension collapsing, the ship crashes in Dimension VVVVVV from interference and the crew members are all teleported throughout it, leading Viridian to venture out and rescue them while finding what caused the interference. They are usually highly optimistic and friendly, though they do sometimes act worried in dire situations.

In Super Smash Flash 2[]

In Super Smash Flash 2, Captain Viridian appears as a background character on Nintendo 3DS when stage hazards are turned on. They appear with their original sprites on the top screen of the Nintendo 3DS during the VVVVVV segment of the stage, in which they act as a visual indicator for when the stage's gravity fluctuates: when normal, they stand on the floor, and when reversed, they stand on the ceiling. An image of them can also be seen on the touch screen while the segment is active.

Captain Viridian are one of the Assist characters in Fraymakers, and they is one of the twenty Assists available at the launch of its Early Access release. When called upon, they appear at the side of the player and turn upside-down, which temporarily causes the player to "fall" upward. After about one second, Captain Viridian becomes right-side up again and disappears, returning the player's falling to normal. Due to the large vertical distance the player can travel with Captain Viridian, this makes them very useful for recovering from off-stage, and they can also be used to chase an opponent high above the player.

It takes 65 damage to fully charge Captain Viridian.

In-game description[]

Flips your gravity upside down for a brief period. You can use this to recover, but you can also try to finish off a high-flying foe!

Trivia[]

  • Captain Viridian, CommanderVideo, and Tankman are currently the only characters to appear in both the Super Smash Flash series and Fraymakers.
    • Of them, Captain Viridian is the only one to appear physically in each games.
