The Bubble Shield Monitor is a recurring item from the Sonic franchise that appears as an item in Super Smash Flash 2. It is one of four "Shield Monitor" items that behave in similar ways to each other, alongside the Shield Monitor, Fire Shield Monitor, and Lightning Shield Monitor.
Overview[]
The Bubble Shield Monitor appears as a flashing screen that cannot be passed through by characters, and the top also acts as a hard platform. Upon being broken by a physical attack, the character who attacked it is encapsulated by a large, spherical blue shield that pulses and spins around them. While this shield is active, the character becomes immune to damage and knockback and cannot be grabbed. By default, the shield can take up to 25% damage total, though this amount can be increased based on how much damage the player has accumulated, after which the player is knocked back a short distance. The shield can also disappear if the player is KO'd or breaks another Bubble Shield Monitor (or another item in its class) to replace the previous shield.
While active, by using a midair jump while holding down, the player plummets toward the ground, during which they are able to bounce off of platforms or opponents. Opponents hit by the bounce are meteor smashed and dealt 6% damage. However, the player is unable to stop plummeting on their own, and they risk self-destructing when doing so above a blast line.
