Beast, known in Japan as Lion's Battle Roar (獅子戦吼), also localized as Force, Chi and Lion's Howl, is Lloyd's forward smash in Super Smash Flash 2. Beast previously replaced Sonic Thrust in v0.5a of the SSF2 Demo as his side special move, only to be replaced by Sonic Thrust again in v0.6 of the demo, where it became Lloyd's forward smash.

Overview[]

Forward smash[]

When performed, Lloyd slashes forward with his sword while saying "Beast!" and creates the head of a beast, which attacks the enemy, after which he will spin around once and get back into his fighting stance. The move causes great knockback and 16% to 21% damage, depending on the charge. The hitbox also stays out for a period of time, though the damage and knockback will slightly decrease if the opponent is hit late.

Side special move[]

The subject was never implemented or was removed, cut or altered at some point of its development, and this section pertains to its original implementation.

As a side special move, it functioned very similarly to a smash attack in that the move could be charged for as long as the input is held down, though the move could be charged for a slightly longer period of time than a smash attack. It would deal anywhere from 14% to 19% damage depending on the charge, with great knockback. Unlike its forward smash incarnation, the move would not lose power over time, and opponents could also be hit from behind with the spin Lloyd performs afterward, which would deal the same damage and knockback.

Origin[]

ToS Beast

Magnius using Beast in Tales of Symphonia.

The Beast arte was first introduced in Tales of Phantasia and has been a staple in the Tales series since then. When this arte is activated, the user slams the target with extreme force, creating a blast of energy in the image of a lion's head, which forces all nearby enemies to be blasted away and knocked to the ground. This is an effective arte to clear mobs when surrounded by many enemies because of its power and force. It is usually one of the first artes that a character acquires that can cause enemies to be knocked down.

The arte can be learned by four characters in Tales of Symphonia: Lloyd Irving, Magnius, Celsius, and Farah Oersted. Additionally, Presea Combatir has a significantly more powerful version of this arte than Lloyd Irving, now officially localized as Punishing Beast.
