BANDAI NAMCO Games Inc. (株式会社バンダイナムコゲームス) is an arcade, mobile, and home video game publisher, based in Japan. The company also publishes video, music, and other entertainment products related to its video game IPs. It is the product of a merger between the video game development divisions of BANDAI and NAMCO. Originally referred to in the West as NAMCO BANDAI Games, the company was internationally renamed as BANDAI NAMCO Games in January 2014. On December 17, 2014, BANDAI NAMCO Holdings announced that it will change its gaming division name from BANDAI NAMCO Games to BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment on April 1, 2015. BANDAI NAMCO Games had a hand in the development of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
As NAMCO, they were a front-runner during the golden age of arcade video games. PAC-MAN, arguably their most famous title, went on to become the best-selling arcade game in history and an international popular culture icon, including his eponymous main character. They are also known for creating successful franchises such as Galaxian, RIDGE RACER, ACE COMBAT, TEKKEN, Katamari series, The iDOLM@STER series, Taiko: Drum Master series, and Soul series.
BANDAI was a Japanese toy making and video game company, as well as the producer of a large number of plastic model kits. It is the world's third-largest producer of toys (after Mattel and Hasbro). Some ex-BANDAI group companies produce anime and tokusatsu programs. Its headquarters is located in Taitō, Tokyo. Popular manga franchises had their video games produced by BANDAI, such as the Dragon Ball series, InuYasha series, One Piece series, and Naruto series.
Influence in the McLeodGaming media
PAC-MAN, NAMCO's most popular character, is one of the many playable characters in Super Smash Flash 2 controlling almost the same as he does in his official appearance in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. When he was first introduced in Super Smash Flash 2 and before his actual reveal in an official Super Smash Bros. game, though, PAC-MAN was originally included as an Assist Trophy character before being upgraded to a playable character due to popular demand.
The Tales series also has a strong representation in the Super Smash Flash series, due to the character Lloyd Irving appearing in both Super Smash Flash games. However, Tales of Symphonia is the only game to have representation from the Tales series.
