Airlift is Tails' side special move in Super Smash Flash 2.

Overview[]

When performed, Tails leaps forward through the air with his hands in front of him. The leap travels a good distance and does not make Tails helpless, making for an effective horizontal recovery. If he makes contact with an opponent, he grabs them and carries them through the air for a few moments, being able to fly in any direction during that time. After the time is up, or when an attack input is pressed before then, he kicks the opponent forward, dealing 9% damage with decent knockback. The kick can be angled upwards or backwards as well using the respective directional inputs.

Origin[]

Airlift is based on a recurring ability Tails has throughout the Sonic games to carry allies who grab onto him as he flies, which, unlike in SSF2, is not used offensively in any way. This originates from Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where Tails is able to carry Sonic through the air in the 2-player mode and certain air-centric levels. While carrying Sonic, Tails' basic flight control is retained, though the speed of ascent is lowered due to the extra weight. The kick attack also resembles the Thunder Shoot from Sonic Heroes.

The short time Tails has in SSF2 to carry an opponent may come from the fact that he can only fly for so long in the Sonic franchise, as flying for too much time will tire him out.
